Dear Mr. Novak,
While my husband and I were strolling our napping toddlers around Disneyland last December, you happened to quickly pass us by in the opposite direction. Excitedly, I clawed at my husband’s arm and whisper-screamed, “OH MY GOD, DID YOU SEE WHO THAT WAS?? IT WAS B.J. NOVAK!!!” Without missing a beat, he responded, “B.J. Novak? You mean the author of The Book with No Pictures?!” In my mind, you were that funny dude from The Office, but, in that moment, I realized you were so much more than that to my young family.
We cannot possibly quantify how many moments of laughter and togetherness your book (with no pictures) has provided for our kids who hold us hostage every night until we read it to them before bed. The amount of glee, giggles, and squeals of absolute joy that this book (with no pictures) has produced is priceless and cherished. It has become such a staple in our lives that our kiddo had requested to gift this book (with no pictures) to all of his friends as a party favor at his fourth birthday celebration—and it was a hit.
Later that evening in December, while our kids were spilling their over-priced cups of Blue Milk in Star Wars Land, I conspiratorially turned to them and revealed, “You’ll never guess who walked by our stroller while you were napping… it was B.J. Novak!!” Their eyes got wide as they gasped, “B.J. Novak from The Book with No Pictures??” To which I responded, “No, you uncultured swine. He was the funny dude from The Office.” (Just kidding.)
