I let you guess a bit. One tip: The state's relatively democratic system existed to some extend OTL in the area it consists of in my ATL, plus the state's part of the Holy Roman Empire both in ATL and OTL (Year 1779).

Another one, mostly directed at politically versed US Statians: Where did I get the emblem below the Eagle from?

The Hansa-as-a-state, maybe?

Bloody beautiful flag! This coat-of-arms is from OTL?

The laurels, the coat-of-arms, and eagle are great, both alone and united in this flag.

Is it Hansa as LordInsane tried?

No, no Hansa state. But the ATL state is a member of it. :p Well, except for the laurel wreath, every other part of the CoA is OTL (if slightly changed) as well. Perhaps a little hint: The emblem below the eagle is taken from something within the US government.

Republic of Genova, from MC3

Interesting design.

A Very beautiful flag!

I suppose Scotland is dominant in this Union, then?

Well, I thought of leaving it a bit open actually. It will be Scottish King who, through some royal labirinthine ways we cannot fully comprehend (i.e. I didn't thought of the details yet), will be the one uniting the two Kingdoms. In order not to piss off the even more aristocratic nobility than in OTL, he puts England as the first name (prestige and such).

Even inofficially seen, Scotland as the most dominant nation might not even be completely true. You know, the King's family actually from Northumbria.. but as a little duchy, the King couldn't put that on the flag. :( The CoA will though, from now on ... :D

Wasn't it the Scottish kings who united Great Britain OTL?

Only with English consent, though, and by Elizabeth's word on her deathbed. If she had refused him, I think we would have fought a war of succession, and most probably won - the Stuarts were an unknown quantity at best.

Flag of an Independent California:
I conceived 5 provinces being 2 carved out of North and South California, Nevada, Baja California and Baja California Sur, explaining the stars and stripes (1 represents the Union as a whole). This is all set around an alternate history concept where Joshua Norton was less insane and was actually able to carve out his own United Kingdom of America from California and surrounding areas
