Here's How the News Networks are Covering July 4th

Bring on the burgers, hot dogs and sparklers! The Fourth of July is here, and it doesn’t get any better than being outdoors, grilling with friends and family and enjoying the dazzling fireworks displays that illuminate the sky across the country as nightfall approaches. But should you be spending most of your time indoors on Independence Day, the various news outlets have you covered with a variety of programming for America's 248th birthday. Here's what's happening around the dial on July 4th. ABC News The streaming service ABC News Live will have live shows throughout the day as well as special live programming in conjunction with Houston, TX affiliate KTRK airing its annual Fourth of July spectacular, Freedom Over Texas. CBS News On CBS Mornings, CBS Saturday Morning co-host Michelle Miller will reports on the growing population of male military spouses. One of her subjects is "Macho Spouse" creator, Chris Pape. Meanwhile, correspondent Nancy Chen explores how inflation has hit the holiday staples market and Anthony Salvanto, executive director of elections and surveys for CBS News, talks to voters about the current state of the American Dream. CNN The 2024 edition of CNN’s annual The Fourth in America musical experience will beam in live fireworks displays from around the country in between performances from the likes of Ashanti, Bebe Rexha, T-Pain, Keith Urban, Chris Young and Ben Platt. CNN anchors Dana Bash and Boris Sanchez will host the special from Washington, D.C., alongside Victor Blackwell and Sara Sidner from San Diego. CNN anchor Brianna Keilar and CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten will provide on-the-ground reporting from celebrations in D.C. and New York City, respectively. The show will feature live fireworks displays from such cities as Washington, D.C. and Asbury Park, NJ, as well as musical performances by Frank Ray and messages from veterans and viewers. Additionally, Fox Nation’s Abby Hornacek will be reporting live from Bristol, Rhode Island, home to the Oldest Independence Celebration in the Nation parade. Fox News Audio will present a trio of one-hour specials, including The Brian Kilmeade Show: Give Kids a Healthier, Happier Childhood by Taking Away the Smartphone, Jason Chaffetz Podcast: Jason in the House and The Politics of Patriotism. At 9 a.m., the show's 3rd Hour will air live from Macy’s Herald Square Plaza ahead of Macy's 4th of July Fireworks, which takes over the NBC airwaves at 8 p.m. On NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, correspondent Kaylee Hartung will report on a family that runs firework celebrations around the country, including in the Big Apple. NewsNation NewsNation plans live reports from Independence Day celebrations across the country in addition to re-airing the original documentary Reagan: Portrait of a Presidency. PBS News A Capitol Fourth returns to the public airwaves, as well as the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Alfonso Ribeiro will emcee the 2024 program, which includes performances from Fantasia Barrino, Smokey Robinson, Sheila E. and Darren Criss. It all concludes with the majestic sight of fireworks going boom against the backdrop of the towering Washington Monument. Scripps News Morning Rush has several Independence Day-appropriate segments planned, including an interview with nutritionist Dr. Daryl Gioffre about making healthy holiday eating choices, plus a story that follows U.S. Air Force veteran Betsy Feaster and her service dog, Maynard as they honor the country's veterans. A marathon of Scripps News' Emmy-winning documentary series In Real Life kicks off at 6 p.m. ET covering such subjects as AI and Jason Bellini's award-winning reporting from the Ukraine.
