This article discusses the successful implementation of Six Sigma methodology in a high precision and critical process in the manufacture of automotive products. The Six Sigma define–measure–analyse–improve–control approach resulted in a reduction of tolerance-related problems and improved the first pass yield from 85% to 99.4%. Data were collected on all possible causes and regression analysis, hypothesis testing, Taguchi methods,
classification and regression tree, etc. were used to analyse the data and draw conclusions. Implementation of Six Sigma methodology had a significant financial impact on the profitability of the company. An approximate saving of US$70,000 per annum was reported, which is in addition to the customer-facing benefits of improved
quality on returns and sales. The project also had the benefit of allowing the company to learn useful messages that will guide future Six Sigma activities.

Six Sigma is a quality improvement tool to measure the process outputs for error reducing system. It aims to maximise customer satisfaction and minimise defects in products and services. To enhance the quality and meet customer expectations, it is necessary to bring in innovation. This paper presents a brief overview of Six Sigma, its tools and how it can be applied in the secondhand bookstore industry by using principles of enhanced productivity as well as process quality management in a well-defined framework. This study contains a survey of 180 college students (Our target customers) understanding their view on New books vs Secondhand books, the difficulties they face and their view in the implementation of the proposed innovation to improve quality in service as well as maximise customer needs. The proposed new solution will be explained through DMAIC methodology and its superiority to the pre-existing model, and also its benefits to both customers and sellers.

The purpose of this study was to explore the present situation of administrative services in the Printing Unit of ADB and to provide insights on the methodologies of Six Sigma as a productivity tool.

Specifically, the study attempted to answer the problems on how relevant is the Six Sigma utilization to the administrative processes of the Printing Unit of ADB as to its contribution to the vision and mission of ADB, the goals and objectives of the Printing Unit, efficiency and effectiveness, timely delivery of printing services, coordination and teamwork, implementation of projects, economical use of resources, and cost reduction. It also asked on the significant effects of Six Sigma in the provision of printing services and on significance of effect of Six Sigma in the overall efficiency of printing services, and probe on the problems encountered in the use of Six Sigma and its applicability to government agencies, instrumentalities, public enterprises and state colleges and universities.

The respondents showed that the overall rating of the ADB staff on the effectiveness of Six Sigma in the efficiency of ADB’s printing services was favorable. Among the category, respondents in the 15–20 years of service has the lowest satisfactory rating, but still considered a positive perception about the effectiveness of Six Sigma. Overall, the satisfaction rating of the respondents in all questions, the rate was relatively good and that there is no significant difference between the rating of the regular and contractor staff. Evaluating the satisfaction rating of respondents both in terms of gender and age yielded an agreement that Six Sigma is highly relevant to the goal and objectives of the ADB’s Printing Unit. A significant number of respondents by type of staff, etc. encountered two major problems for Six Sigma, these are (1) their current workload prevents them to study the application and (2) new learning/technology.

Public organizations with many various agencies / departments related to education, defense, trade, finance, justice, tourism, budget and management, transport, public works etc., can benchmark and use the best practices in ADB and replicated over time. A corresponding budget had to be allocated though  each  year  for  training. Improvement of government practices has long been a goal of many politicians and officials. New thinking has proven that the government can benefit from Six Sigma methodologies. Six Sigma will help streamline and solve many of the issues necessary to do business daily. All local and national government can implement Six Sigma to improve customer service and increase government effectiveness. Although Six Sigma has its roots in the private sector manufacturing, it works just as effectively in government instrumentalities and it will reap the same benefits. Many of the top private companies have produced excellent results with Six Sigma, cutting costs, increasing profits, and improving customer service. Governments just like ADB, are not looking for profit margin, they still should have the motivation to reduce their costs and reduce the inefficiency that causes cost overruns. Any government institution is a service organization and its customers are the citizens it serves. Six Sigma achieves documented strategic business results by initiating an organization-wide culture and paradigm shift. In short, no more “business as usual”.

Provision of safe, reliable, and affordable care while improving performance and efficiency remains a challenge in the healthcare sector. This study, therefore, reviews the previous researches on the effect of six sigma and industrial revolution 4.0 technologies (IR 4.0) on sustainability as there is still a paucity of literature on the implementation of the practices in the healthcare sector. Notably, the growing challenges within service organizations have motivated healthcare organizations to upgrade their conventional delivery system to a smart sophisticated system. Thus, this present study makes an attempt to model these practices as integrated with IR 4.0 technologies into achieving sustainability in the healthcare industry. In order to fill the void of this gap, this study intends to investigate the joint effects of six sigma and IR 4.0 technologies on sustainable performance of healthcare delivery services. The study confirms the future direction of the public health sector that is recently employing new technologies in its service systems. The data shall be collected from the top management employees, the health practitioners who are working and familiar with the services and operations of the organization and are familiar with the smart tools to expedite services for healthcare. This study extends the current literature on IR 4.0 technologies and six-sigma as enablers of economic, environmental and social sustainability. The aim of this paper is to examine the problem of loss incurred due to damage of glass bottles in the tomato sauce/ketchup industry which not only results in depreciating economy to the manufacturer but also degrades the reputation of a company and degrades its image. This paper uses the DMAIC methodology which is a part of Six Sigma for evaluating the problem. The identification of the root causes was done using Kaoru Ishikawa Diagram (Fish Bone Diagram). The weight of individual root cause was calculated using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Pareto Chart was established to figure out the root causes of the greatest consequence, which were having a very significant impact on the deliverables. Subsequently, brainstorming was done with the experts of this field including the department of Quality Control and logistics was organized which facilitated in figuring out the solutions by reviewing the process map. This paper has been the first attempt to find and review the root causes of the problem of Glass Bottles damage in this particular industry and suggest solutions so that there is a decline in the quantity of damages using DMAIC approach given under Six Sigma methodology.

Product quality is essential for textile and garment companies, and product diversity is also a critical concern. The variations in the garments ' production process are unacceptable, contributing to the appearance of defects, higher production costs, lower profit, and unsatisfied customers, respectively. Improving the level of quality for textile and clothing products is steadily increasing at global level. Due to the strength and competition of today's business climate, many major garment companies have been looking for ways to increase product quality. Lean Six Sigma approach can be applied by clothing companies to improve the quality of goods and operations, including production, reducing the number of mistakes and developing new products. Aiming to provide pertinent improvement proposals for the production process of a typical Romanian garment company, a research was conducted by applying the DMAIC process. Subsequent to the analysis of the company history, an evaluation of the production process was carried out and the causes that cause dysfunctionalities in the production cycle were identified. Finally, a series of improvements were proposed that would lead to the improvement of the activity in the company and generate a revival of this sector of activity.

The competitive strategies for the survival of local banks and changes in customers’ taste for financial products/services have geometrically increased for the Nigerian banks. The banking system is traditionally a service provider. Progressively customers are becoming quality conscious. Six Sigma is a consumer-centric business strategy based on facts and data to satisfy, retained customers, ensure loyalty and profitability. Six Sigma implementation without knowledge management, alignment diminishes profitability, through customer satisfaction, and competitive advantage prowess of the bank. This study examines customer knowledge management and sixsigma as quality assurance practices for the financial sector in Nigeria. Findings show Six Sigma quality assurance practice is still novel in the sector and Nigeria.

Material handling equipment selection problem (MHESP) is an important decision making area for the companies, since it has a direct effect on manufacturing and service productivity. In this study, an integrated fuzzy multi-criteria decision making methodology for MHESP is proposed. The proposed approach is utilized from fuzzy sets, Analytic Network Process (ANP) and Preference Ranking Organization METHod for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE) approaches. Evaluation criteria for the MHESP is weighted by fuzzy-ANP (F-ANP) approach, then, alternative material handling equipments are evaluated by fuzzy-PROMETHEE (F-PROMETHEE) approach. The methodology is applied for a manufacturing company to prove its effectiveness. Finally, some sensitivity analyses are conducted to show the results’ sensitiveness to the changes of the weights of the evaluation criteria.
