Mill contracts in the estates of the Cistercian convent in Żarnowiec (Świecino 1406, Wierzchucino 1516)

In the research into history of cloisters monastic orders, both male and female ones, a significant part is taken by studies concerning revenues that particular convents had at their disposal. With regard to reconstruction of agricultural economy run in monastic estates, a significant part is played by attempts of a more detailed reconstruction of existing economic connections. In this context, it seems essential to examine in a more detailed way the significance of flour-milling to agricultural economy of great monastic property.
The documents presented pertaining to the mills in Świecino and Wierzchucino offer insight into their organization and a role they played in agricultural economy of the Cistercian convent in Żarnowiec which was administered by Cistercians of Oliwa. The basis for the edition is a cartulary of privileges of the monastery kept in the Archives in Gdańsk.

In the 'encyclopaedic' fourteenth century, Arabic chronicles produced in Mamluk cities bore textual witness to both recent and bygone history, including that of the Fatimids (969–1171CE). For in two centuries of rule over Egypt and North Africa, the Isma'ili Fatimids had left few self-generated historiographical records. Instead, it fell to Ayyubid and Mamluk historians to represent the dynasty to posterity. This monograph sets out to explain how later historians preserved, interpreted and re-organised earlier textual sources.
Mamluk historians engaged in a sophisticated archival practice within historiography, rather than uncritically reproducing earlier reports. In a new diplomatic edition, translation and analysis of Mamluk historian Ibn al-Furat's account of late Fatimid rule in The History of Dynasties and Kings, a widely known but barely copied universal chronicle of Islamic history, Fozia Bora traces the survival of historiographical narratives from Fatimid Egypt. Through Ibn al-Furat's text, Bora demonstrates archivality as the heuristic key to Mamluk historical writing.
This book is essential for all scholars working on the written culture and history of the medieval Islamic world, and paves the way for a more nuanced reading of pre-modern Arabic chronicles and of the epistemic environment in which they were produced.

Harold Harefoot is often seen as a usurper, a villain, and an illegitimate interruption to the rightful order of succession. Harold was apparently so distasteful that after his death, his body was exhumed and thrown into the Thames. Harold, known by the nickname "Harefoot," unfortunately remains one of England's most obscure and misunderstood monarchs. While Harold has occasionally been discussed in some formidable scholarship, he is usually only examined as he relates to others. My intention is to put the spotlight on him directly, retracing his life as best as possible and reassessing some of the more distasteful views about him.

A client report, for the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk, to review the monitored and recorded evidence for St John's Chapel/Charnel House, Saturday Market Place, King's Lynn. The foundations of the building were uncovered in August-September 2014, during the local authority-led Town Heritage Initiative HLF-supported project, refurbishing the Saturday Market Place. Due to public interest, the local authority commissioned the report to explore the different ways to present this unique heritage asset, now covered by the new car-park, to the general public.  Transcript unpublished.

The statuta Urbis are the oldest municipal statutes of Rome that have reached us. They were issued in 1363 by the will of the "popular government", governing the city with its own laws during the Avignon Papacy. The "popular" statuta ruled the legal and institutional life of the city until the return of the popes in Rome. In the 18th century, the ancient manuscripts of the statutes emerged from Vatican archives. As soon as Rome became capital of Italy, in 1871, legal and historical studies on the text, promoted by roman cultural institutions, flourished.

Article which looks at the literary heritage of St Gall, Ogham marginalia on mss housed in Switzerland, the history of the St Gall Abbey & Library in the Swiss town of St Gallen and a catalogue of its mss collection of Irish influence

The author examines the problem of medieval Italian's sttlements in the Crimea, gives a permessive interpretation treaty 1169 of Byzantine Emperor Manuel I Comnenos with Genoa about sailing to Rosia and Matrega in the Sea of Azov, cites notarial contracts about voyages of the Venetians in the 1206 in the Crimean Soldaia, the establishment of the Genoa's consulate in 1289 in Crimean Caffa.

This article deals with the issue of the term Vlach, that is, its genesis, dispersion through history and geographical distribution. Also, the article tries to throw a little more light on this notion, through a multidisciplinary view on the part of the population that has been named Vlachs in the past or present. The goal is to create an image of what they really are, and what they have never been, through a specific chronological historical overview of data related to the Vlachs. Thus, it allows the reader to understand, through the facts presented here, the misconceptions that are related to this term in the historiographic literature.

The inclusion of the Black Sea region in the sphere of influence of the Mongolian State in ik first half of the XIII century turned the Crimean peninsula in the center, where joins the trade winds from the west and east, and united Asian's stepp and European's marine main trade routes Commercial favorable conjuncture favored relocation to the peninsula Genoese merchants «1» established their main center - the city of Caffa. Trading activities begin the political relations betweel the Mongol Empire and the Republic of Genoa. As a result of a century of development small size of land on which the Latins to establish their settlement - Caffa, become a significant area of the Crimea: coast with the towns, castles and villages under the protection of the Genoese republic (Genoese Gazaria). This new formation will be Genoa in 14 - 15 centuries one of the major states, defining the political situation in the region. Artefacts of Genoese Gazaria today illustrate the results of the Mongolian State and the Republic of Genoa relations in the northern Black Sea region during ik Middle Ages.

Türkler tarih boyunca bulundukları coğrafyalarda birçok devlet kurmuşlardır. Bu devlet kurma geleneği İslâm dinini kabul ettikten sonra da devam etmiştir. Kurdukları devletler ve tarihte oynadıkları rollerden dolayı adlarından sıkça bahsedilen Ortaçağ Türk-İslâm devletlerinde çeşitli suçlar görülmektedir. Bu suçlardan bir tanesi olan kalpazanlık en eski çağlardan itibaren toplumlarda var olmuştur. Günümüzde olduğu gibi Ortaçağ'da kolay yoldan zengin olmak isteyenler sahte para basıyorlardı. Kalpazanlar, Türk-İslâm coğrafyasının birçok bölgesinde faaliyette idiler. Genelde kalpazanlık faaliyetleri devletlerin çeşitli bölgelerinde görülmekle birlikte özellikle darphanelerin bulunduğu yerlerde daha fazla olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Toplumun çeşitli kesimlerden insanların veya meslek gruplarının bu tür olaylara dâhil oldukları bilinmektedir Özellikle devletlerin zayıf oldukları dönemlerde görülmekle birlikte devletlerin en güçlü oldukları dönemlerde dahi kalpazanlar sahte para basmışlardır. Devletlerin para politikalarını değiştirdikleri, piyasaya farklı türde para sürme gibi işlemler uyguladıkları dönemler kalpazanların işine yaramıştır. Kalpazanlar piyasaya sürdükleri kalp paralar neticesinde, devletlerin bünyesinde siyasal, sosyal, ekonomik nitelikli sonuçlara neden olmuşlardır. Suçun olduğu her yerde mutlaka bunun bir cezası olduğu gibi devletler de kalpazanlık faaliyetlerinde bulunanlara birtakım cezalar vermişlerdir. Sahte para basımını çok eski tarihlere kadar götürmek ve daha geniş coğrafyaya yaymak mümkündür. Fakat bu daha kapsamlı bir çalışma gerektirmektedir. Bu çalışmada devrin kaynaklarında yer alan kalpazanlık suçunun, Ortaçağ Türk-İslâm devletlerindeki çeşitli örnekleri, ekonomik, sosyal ve kültürel yapı üzerindeki etkileri incelenecektir.

The book deals with the natural and cultural history from the formation of the isle to present day. Most of the book covers recent archaeological excavations and the disovery that on the ilse existed the shrine of Diomedes (6th century BC - 1st/2nd century AD). Romans have also occupied the island and have built a fortress. It is represented on all important Medieval maps. It was the most important fishing area for long in the Adriatic  and played an significant role in the First and Second WW. As it is situated in the hart of the Adriatic sea it still plays an important role in navigation: thus a lighthouse was built in 1875.
