Introduzione Nonostante in Italia il tema non sia ancora pienamente emerso, nel dibattito biblio-teconomico internazionale si parla da tempo di internet of things (IoT), l'internet delle cose, di blockchain e intelligenza artificiale, e del loro potenziale uso nelle biblioteche. Questo non significa che nel nostro paese non ci siano già realizzazioni di IoT anche nelle biblioteche ma più semplicemente è un segnale di come il livello di diffusione, di conoscenza e di maturità delle realizzazioni non sia ancora sufficientemente este-so e le enormi potenzialità non ancora recepite dalla comunità bibliotecaria. Non succede solo in Italia e non c'è affatto da stupirsi se consideriamo che siamo nel bel mezzo della rivoluzione digitale e ancora non l'abbiamo metabolizzata con i suoi tempi di evoluzione rapidissimi. La rivoluzione digitale è una rivoluzione alta-mente impattante poiché presenta le caratteristiche di una rivoluzione tecnologi-ca, al pari della rivoluzione industriale, che introdusse un'importante nuova tec-nologia come la macchina a vapore, ma anche le caratteristiche di una rivoluzione culturale e, in questo senso, è assimilabile all'invenzione della stampa a caratteri mobili con le sue molteplici implicazioni sociali e culturali, prima fra tutte la diffu-sione del libro e della conoscenza, poiché rendendo possibile l'immissione sul mercato di un gran numero di copie iden-tiche di uno stesso testo in qualsiasi momento prestabilito, Gutenberg previ-de la possibilità di aumentare sempre di più il numero di copie riducendo con-temporaneamente il tempo necessario a produrle 1 e riducendo anche il costo in modo da rendere il libro un oggetto più accessibile. The main objective of this study was to find out the key challenges when using
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in University Libraries (UL)
and Special Libraries (SL) in Sri Lanka. Twenty nine (29) Main & Faculty UL and
thirty eight (38) SL were selected out of 36 and 76 libraries respectively. Random
sampling technique was used to select the sample. A questionnaire was used to
collect primary data. Out of the total, 22 UL and 28 SL responded. According to the
analysis of data it was found that a majority of the UL (79.55%) were challenged
with insufficient fund allocations to purchase necessary ICT equipment, while a
majority of the SL (73.21%) faced a challenge of a lack of an island-wide
distribution network. Next, 78.41% of the UL were also challenged with a lack of an
island-wide distribution network and 66.07% of the SL were constantly challenged
with delays in purchasing computers and other ICT equipment. Laws and
regulations for purchasing and maintaining ICT tools in the UL (77.27%) and SL
(65.18%) were also identified as major challenges. Provision of sufficient fund
allocations for ICT, the need to inculcate skills and knowledge regarding ICT
activities for administrative staff, conducting in-service and outdoor high quality
training programmes for library staff, are some of the recommendations suggested
hereby to overcome above challenges in UL and SL in Sri Lanka.

Quality Improvement without Best Practices and Accreditation cannot be possible in
today’s Academic Realm, according to the writer. Best practices are identified by examining
empirical evidence of success. At present there are many Best Practices followed in Academic
Libraries to improve the quality of services and professionalism.

National Accreditation and Assessment Council and then discusses the Best Practices followed
in the Sanskar Sarjan Education Society’s D. T. S. S. College of Commerce and P. D. T. Junior
College of Commerce and Science, Malad. It also analyze the Best Practices with their Goal of
the Practice, The Process, Impact of the Practice, Resources required, and Remarks.
In conclusion the paper strongly opines that “the Best Practices should not only fulfill
the need of information of the students, but also include the services and activities in which
the aim of overall development of the students is achieved.”

This paper discusses the different dimension of the ICTs. It gives an awareness of technology in library and why there is a need to understand the use of ICT in the library for rendering enhanced library services and information to users. The current study highlights the areas where ICT can be applied. Basically, the paper explains different technologies and their use in the library operation. How library services are prompted with the use of technology like RemoteXs, RFID Technology, QR Code, etc. have discoursed in the study. The present study discusses various library operations using library automation. In this paper, the benefits of institutional repositories have been discussed for archiving the library resources. ""As map-based visualizations of documents become more ubiquitous, there is a greater need for them to support intellectual and creative high-level cognitive activities with collections of non-cartographic materials — documents. This dissertation concerns the conceptualization of map-based visualizations as tools for sensemaking and collection understanding. As such, map-based visualizations would help people use georeferenced documents to develop understanding, gain insight, discover knowledge, and construct meaning.

This dissertation explores the role of graphical representations (such as maps, Kohonen maps, pie charts, and other) and interactions with them for developing map-based visualizations capable of facilitating sensemaking activities such as collection understanding. While graphical representations make document collections more perceptually and cognitively accessible, interactions allow users to adapt representations to users’ contextual needs. By interacting with representations of documents or collections and being able to construct representations of their own, people are better able to make sense of information, comprehend complex structures, and integrate new information into their existing mental models. In sum, representations and interactions may reduce cognitive load and consequently expedite the overall time necessary for completion of sensemaking activities, which typically take much time to accomplish.

The dissertation proceeds in three phases. The first phase develops a conceptual framework for translating ontological properties of collections to representations and for supporting visual tasks by means of graphical representations. The second phase concerns the cognitive benefits of interaction. It conceptualizes how interactions can help people during complex sensemaking activities. Although the interactions are explained on the example of a prototype built with Google Maps, they are independent of Google Maps and can be applicable to various other technologies. The third phase evaluates the utility, analytical capabilities and usability of the additional representations when users interact with a visualization prototype – VIsual COLlection EXplorer. The findings suggest that additional representations can enhance understanding of map-based visualizations of library collections: specifically, they can allow users to see trends, gaps, and patterns in ontological properties of collections.""

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has brought unprecedented changes and transformation to academic library and information services, conventional LIS such as OPAC, users services, reference services, bibliographic services, current awareness services, Document delivery, inter library loan, Audio visual services and customer relations can be provided more efficiently and effectively using ICT, as they offer convenient time, place, cost effectiveness, faster and most-up to date dissemination and end users involvement in the library and information services process. The impact of ICT characterized on information services by changes in format, contents and method of production and contents and method of production and delivery of information products. This study explains about the ICT based resources and services in engineering college libraries in Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram districts. The data is collected through a questionnaire to study the ICT based library resources and services among UG students, PG students and faculty members. This study found about purpose of using ICT based resources, aware about engineering databases, criteria for use, problem while access the ICT based resources and found library performance about ICT based resources and services.

This paper overviews the basic concept of newly develop area known as cloud computing. The use of cloud computing in libraries and how cloud computing actually works is illustrated in this communication.  Cloud computing technology came up as a boon for libraries and is offering various opportunities for libraries to connect their services with clouds. The paper presents an overview of cloud computing and its possible applications that can be clubbed with library services on the web based environment. This study may be helpful in identifying and generating cloud based services for libraries.  Latest technological development has brought a dramatic change in every field, and library science is not exception to it. Information technology impacted positively on library and information system and services they provide for users. The libraries have been automated, networked and now moving towards paper less or virtual libraries. The place of academic library in national development cannot be underestimated. Despite its central role in nurturing tomorrow's  leaders, it preserves for posterity a country's intellectual heritage in the form of indigenous  resources and provides for education and research. This responsibility was carried out with prints until the turn of century which ushered in ICT. Consequently, intellectual heritage becomes ubiquitous without being bound to space and time . Further to that the role of academic librarians still remains the same fundamentally but  changed in the ways and means of actualisation. By implication the human capacity needed for this changing roles changed . Hence a survey was carried out to determine the efforts of Nigerian university libraries towards ensuring staff capacity with focus  on  availability of policy for staff development in Nigerian University libraries , the extent of the policy implementation, challenges to these efforts and ways of ensuring sustainable policy development and implementation.Questionnaire responses from twelve federal university libraries in Nigeria show that they have well developed staff development policies which are implemented in the areas of justification  for training, responsibility for training , category of staff  to be trained, type of training , method of training , documentation of training as well as location of training. Finance and lack of professional collaboration are considered the major challenges to effective capacity building in Nigerian University libraries.

The study investigates assessment of computer technology acceptance and use by undergraduate students' university library. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study and the study population consisted of registered undergraduates students in the library. Random sampling was used to select a sample of 100 and questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics consisting of tables o f frequency and percentage. The findings revealed that computers and scanners 74 (100%) were the available IT tools in the library, while the least respondent 17 (23%) indicated that OPAC and multimedia 22 (29.7%) were also available.
Computers and scanners were acceptable and use in the university library with respond rates o f 67 (90.5%>) and 46 (62.2%), multimedia 28 (37.8%>) and interactive whiteboard 10 (13.5%>) were partially
acceptable and use, while 26 (35.1%) reported that OPAC were not acceptable and use at all. The study concluded that there is no IT policy governing the library on computer technology acceptance and use. It
can also be deduced from the study that the respondents use the computer technology to support their teaching, learning and research work; to gain speedy access to other sources o f information particularly
those available online etcetera. There should be favorable IT policy that will govern computer technology acceptance and use in the university library. Also, adequate fund should be provided to the library to
sustain and acquire IT infrastructure in order to enhance the computer technology acceptance and use in library.

Academic librarians often provide information literacy support for specific courses or topics in the form of research guides, one-shot training sessions, library orientations, or by embedding library content into online courses. Less frequently, they provide continuous program-level support on-campus or online. This paper highlights the value of sustained involvement of librarians at the program level to provide information literacy in an online environment. The description of implementation, research results, and strategies for sustainability will be useful to other online programs engaged in equipping online graduate students with essential information literacy skills to succeed in their academic endeavors.

With the increasing number of online programs offered by institutions of higher education, it is important to find ways to provide information literacy instruction to support off-campus students and to help them succeed in such programs. With the aim of designing instruction appropriate to the needs and existing skills of online graduate students in an Ed.D. program, a needs assessment of their information literacy skills was conducted before they began the online program. The results were used to design library instruction intended to fill the gaps in graduate students’ information literacy skills and research abilities. Asynchronous and synchronous instruction was provided to address students’ preferred learning methods.

The study focuses on discussions on the fast-growing nature of tertiary institutions in Ghana with inadequate supply of high-quality Library and Information professionals to manage their libraries. In order to set the context for these concerns, the paper adds to the discussion a brief history of how libraries in Ghana begun. The paper continues to underscore the development of these libraries and their current states. The challenges of LIS education as well as significant roles played by LIS education in the nation's development are also highlighted in the paper. It concludes by offering suggestions on how to improve LIS education in Ghana as well as the quality of curriculum used by the only LIS professionals provider in the country.
