O artigo tem por objetivo divulgar a poesia dita lírica de Horácio. Assim observando 5 Odes, a saber, a 1.5 (trad. Nelson Ascher; a 3. 30 (trad. P. Martins); 1.38 (trad. de J.A. Oliva Neto); 1.11 (trad. de P. Martins) e 4.7 (trad. de P. Martins), proponho uma leitura transversal de temas importantes dentro de sua matéria poética, entre os quais, podemos salientar: a perenidade da obra (Exegi monumentum); o amor (Ad Pyrram) e a fugacidade da vida (Deffugere niues - Carpe diem). O texto também observa a relação possível entre a ode 1,38 de Horácio e Fernando Pessoa em uma de suas odes assinadas por Ricardo Reis.

Dans les odes érotiques, Horace conjugue exaltation de la passion et morale de l’amour : il chante la puissance et les beautés du désir, mais n’en invite pas moins les jeunes filles à se marier, les matrones à être fidèles, les jeunes gens à se contrôler et les vieilles femmes à renoncer à l’amour. Il rompt ainsi avec la tradition qui le précède, de Sappho aux élégiaques latins en passant par Anacréon, Alcée ou Catulle. Pour comprendre cette intrusion de la morale dans le domaine érotique, il faut tenir compte de tout ce qui fonde la lyrique horatienne : l’ambition de devenir une voix de la cité, la nécessité de dire son adhésion au nouveau régime, mais aussi l’intérêt pour la philosophie, y compris l’Académie, dont on sous-évalue l’importance dans son œuvre. Les enjeux moraux sont cependant indissociables des choix poétiques. C’est en poète qu’Horace se fait philosophe, jouant sur la coïncidence de certains motifs proprement lyriques avec une morale d’origine philosophique. C’est également en poète qu’il réconcilie l’exaltation de la passion et la morale, grâce à un jeu sur les genres, les formes et leur pragmatique. Cet ouvrage éclaire la manière dont se tissent, dans les Odes, l’inspiration érotique, le substrat philosophique, le contexte politique et les choix poétiques de celui qui se regarde comme l’inventeur de la lyrique latine.

La natura ‘dialogica’ della lirica antica rivive nelle Odi oraziane, nelle quali l’apostrofe del poeta lascia aperta la possibilità di un intervento del destinatario dell’invito al banchetto. Orazio, sul modello delle coppie agonali di ambito simposiale, descrive il ‘contrasto’ che ha luogo nella dimensione del convito. Il ‘fonocentrismo’ delle Odi potrebbe contemplare quindi non solo la voce del poeta, ma anche quella del destinatario, cioè di un interlocutore in carne ed ossa, non immaginario, che diviene persona loquens nella scena del convito.

The dialogic nature of ancient lyric poetry revives in Horace’s Odes. In particular, the poet’s direct addresses leave the possibility open for the addressee of the invitation to the banquet to interact with him. Horace models the ‘contrast’ that takes place within the symposium after sympotic agonistic exchanges. The Odes’ phonocentric nature would therefore involve the addressee’s voice as well as the poet’s own-with the addressee being a real person (not an imaginary interlocutor) turned into a persona loquens in the convivial setting.

L’analisi di Hor. carm. I 27 dimostra l’imitazione da parte di Orazio dell’intero fr. 356/11a-b Page (= 33 Gent.) di Anacreonte e non, come si è finora pensato, della sola seconda parte di esso. L’anello di congiunzione è costituito dai vv. 11-12 del fr. 178 Pf. di Callimaco, a torto in precedenza scartato. Si dimostra che nel processo di imitazione Orazio opera una contaminazione tra i due passi. Sulla base della stretta analogia tra Anacreonte e Orazio si suppone che già Orazio, come anche Porfirione, leggesse i frammenti a e b del modello greco senza soluzione di continuità all’interno di una silloge in cui in particolare i frammenti 356/11a-b e 357/12 Page si susseguivano.

The analysis of Hor. carm. I 27 reveals Horace's imitation of the entire Anacreon fr. 356/11a-b Page (= 33 Gent.) and not, as scholars had previously claimed, only the second part of it. The link is constituted by lines 11-12 of Callimachus fr. 178 Pf., wich had been wrongly rejected. This paper highlights how Horace through the imitation process mixes both passages together. By making a close analogy between Anacreon and Horace we claim that Horace, like Porphyrion, had already read the fragments a and b of the Greek model in an anthology in which the fragments 356/11a-b and 357/12 Page were presented back to back with one another.

En el presente trabajo proponemos un análisis de la oda XV del libro III del poeta latino Horacio. Recuperamos el contexto sociopolítico de producción y exploramos los aspectos temáticos y filosóficos vinculados a la visión del amor. Dicho análisis nos permitirá observar que tales versos están entre las llamadas lírica civil y lírica individual. Previamente, haremos un recorrido breve sobre la vida y obra del poeta.

This article proposes an examination of the letter 119 by Seneca. This text has to be considered as a proper “manifesto” of the ascetic vocation that marks Seneca’s last years. The aim of my analysis is to emphasise how the model of satirical Horace works as a poetic filter for Seneca’s reworking of the diatribic topics. Furthermore, a quote from the Satires (Sat. I 2, 27) is included in a rhetorical construction in which it seems to emerge an attempt to produce a stylistic imitation that is very close to the satirical model.

Janvier 27 avant n. è. : sur les décombres de la défunte République, Octavien/Auguste posait les fondations du Principat. À ses côtés, fidèle entre tous, Mécène, appelé à devenir l'archétype du patron littéraire. Depuis les guerres civiles, certains des poètes les plus en vue à Rome bénéficiaient de sa protection et de ses largesses. Il n'en fallut pas plus pour que le soupçon d'instrumentalisation naisse chez les Modernes. À rebours des théories classiques, l'auteur s'attache à démontrer que les poètes n'ont jamais eu à souffrir de ce compagnonnage. Non seulement le pouvoir naissant ne chercha pas à instrumentaliser leur talent afin d'asseoir le régime nouveau, mais ce sont bien plutôt les poètes qui prétendirent influencer ce dernier. Les liens entre la poésie et le politique dépassent toutefois la seule question de l'instrumentalisation. La période qui va de la fin de la République au début du Principat a été marquée par une vie littéraire florissante. Virgile, Horace, Properce, Tibulle, Ovide, d'autres encore, menèrent alors les lettres latines à leur apogée. Ils entendirent donner à la poésie latine la prééminence sur sa rivale grecque. Ils parachevaient là une dynamique apparue au tournant du milieu du I er avant n. è. Chapeautés par leurs patroni, ils souhaitèrent associer Octavien/Auguste à ce mouvement. Loin d'avoir joué le rôle d'initiateur, le Princeps répondit à une attente pressante, sans éclipser pour autant le rôle des aristocrates dans le domaine littéraire. Au fil des pages, le livre dévoile les modalités de la vie littéraire à Rome dans un contexte politique singulier. Il met en cause l'existence des cercles littéraires tout en analysant l'intérêt des aristocrates comme Mécène, Messalla ou Pollion à protéger les poètes et les caractéristiques de ce patronage

Les poètes romains ont, dit-on, imité la poésie grecque, mais que faut-il entendre par « imiter » ? une incapacité des Romains à créer leur propre poésie qui les condamnerait à signer les Grecs, ou un geste culturel maîtrisé ? Que fait-il comprendre quand Horace se dit nouveau Pindare, Properce nouveau Callimaque ? Pourquoi l’Énéide de Virgile commence-telle conne une Odyssée et finit-elle comme une Iliade ? Autant de questions auxquelles nous tenterons de répondre par une analyse de ce que nous pouvons nommer une « poétique de la refondation ».

The overall objective of this thesis is to consider the way the epistolary persona set up by Horace in his Epistles relates to his position within Roman society, taking into account the image of the poet as a guide in the process of the establishment of the Augustan Principate. In this way, we seek to analyze the mode through which Horace stands in literary tradition, reflecting on his option to the epistolary genre, its circulation in the Roman world and with which discourses he deals in these works. It is also our aim to discuss how, in the construction of epistolary éthos, Horace presents himself as a model to be followed by the new members of the Roman elite. He appropriates the epistolary scenography to self-represent as someone successful, who, from that point forward, would begin to deliver advice about the best way to behave in the Roman social life. Also, we aim to identify the social role and function that Horace assigns to poets and writers, connecting this to the shaping of a new regime, the Principate, as well as to patronage. For such study, we use, as methodology, the assumptions from Discourse Analysis, as well as the concepts of social place of Michel Pêcheux, representation of Roger Chartier and discoursive practices and éthos of Dominique Maingueneau.

Around the middle years of the sixteenth century there is a notable rise of the comments to the texts of Horace and especially of the Ars poetica. In order to discover possible sources of the comment on Horace by Francisco Sánchez de las Brozas (In poeticam Horatii Artem Elucidatio, Salmanticae, 1558), I have discussed some passages De arte poetica interpretatione explicatus (Florentiae, 1550) by Giacomo Grifoli with special attention to the preliminary letter.

Horatius fought in the ranks of the Republicans before becoming, at least in appearance, one of the most fervent supporters of Augustus and of the Imperial regime. This ideological volte-face is very surprising, perhaps because we tend to assign ideologies a significance they did not actually have in the Roman world. In reality, Horatius did not believe he had recanted. He simply changed patrons after the defeat of his Republican friends ; he wagered a bet on the future by incorporating himself into a new network, that of the victors. Far from having been manipulated by the new regime, and far from having become its spokesman, he tried to influence it through his verses, and in this way assumed the stature of an intellectual.

Horace combattit dans les rangs des républicains avant de devenir, en apparence au moins, l’un des plus fervents partisans d’Auguste et du régime impérial. Cette volte-face idéologique ne manque pas de surprendre. Sans doute parce que nous accordons aux idéologies une place qui n’était pas la leur dans le monde romain. En réalité, jamais Horace n’eut le sentiment de se renier. Il a seulement changé de protecteurs après la défaite de ses amis républicains, fait un pari sur l’avenir en s’attachant à un nouveau réseau, celui des vainqueurs. Et loin d’avoir été manipulé par le nouveau régime, loin d’être devenu son porte-parole, il a, par ses vers, tenté de l’influencer, adoptant par là même la posture de l’intellectuel.

This paper focuses on a 179-line poem written by Nicolas-Éloi Lemaire, profes- sor of Latin poetry at La Sorbonne (1819): a dedicatory epistle to Louis XVIII, in order to thank him for funding his collection of classical authors (Bibliotheca classica Latina). Several Latin authors, including Caesar, Horace, Vergil, Juvenal and Claudian, sing the praises of the king. While the poem eulogises some major virtues of Louis XVIII and the new Regime, it reflects the popularity of those authors. The poem is also programmatic of the whole collection, consi- dering for instance its patriotism and its eulogy of Louis XVIII’s successors. In the Appendix, the poem itself is edited with a translation and explanatory notes.

L'articolo mette in rilievo come, nella tradizione manoscritta oraziana d'area francese, sia possibile rilevare una fase di discrimine intorno al XI secolo: i mss. rivelano una nuova sequenza per le opere del poeta latino e l'attività di glossa su di esse permette di rilevare un progressivo spostamento nell'interesse dei lettori dall'Orazio lirico a quello esametrico e "morale". Nell'articolo si argomentano alcune ipotesi su ragioni storico-culturali che possono aver indotto tale discontinuità.
