In this paper we attempt to account for the problematic of the State in Latin America based on some of the different approaches to its approach in Western political thought. This allows us to build a basic systematic approach to analyze its dimensions so far in the 21st century. For this reason, our approach has a clear historical and theoretical component but is oriented towards empirical research in the tradition of the social sciences in general, and political science in particular. Our reflection attempts to sculpt a historical and situated vision of the process of state building; for this reason each nation state has its own history, often the generalizing attempt blurs the particularities trying to elaborate general theories. Thus, the regions also provide a distinctive edge to this process that was expanding as a form of political organization since the sixteenth century. In our specific case, the Latin American reality provides us with a great richness. The growing expansion of political participation in countries such as Argentina, Brazil and Mexico will have its own hallmarks in the dimension of the political regime and the constitution of collective actors. In the same way, the crisis of the liberal state will give rise to its own versions of the welfare state, as early as the beginning of the 1930s, and strongly in the 1950s. Institutional ruptures and the emergence of authoritarian regimes will be a distinctive feature of the region that often could not be studied from analytical categories of greater pretension of universality. The construction of critical views of Eurocentrism will give birth to autochthonous visions such as the Theory of Dependency or the historical-structural approach. These developed in an intense debate with the main theoretical traditions developed in the central countries.

*** Beyond the stereotyped used of romantic love and drama on Clint Eastwood’s film The Bridges of Madison County are also shown and questioned family strategies and gender roles of rural women in the 1960s at United States through their lifes and established social relations. Dealing with feminist movement key issues as motherhood, female sexuality, identity, or the double work time on the agricultural sector and making extensive use of audiovisual language, the filmed adaptation of the novel written by Robert James Waller focuses on (either deliberately or accidentaly) the taboos of the time women and gender mandates they sould assume.

Pule Temple, one of a series of temples under the patronage of the Qing court (1644 – 1911), is unique in holding a giant, three-dimensional mandala as the only object in the main hall, distinguishing this temple from all others in China. This mandala is identified as a cakrasamvara Tantric Buddhist mandala, a visualized deity system and aid for initiation rituals and meditation. This study introduces the mandala in Pule Temple. The analysis on the key characteristics of the mandala and it peripheral visual context illustrates that, on the one hand, the Qing court attempted to manipulate Tibetan Buddhism to pacify both the Mongolian and the Tibetan communities. On the other hand, it is also a proof of the religious beliefs of Emperor Qianlong, who kept his devotion to Tibetan Buddhism rather private. The indicative elements in Pule temple, including the location, layout, decoration, and the inscriptions on the stele, illustrate the fusion of Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism in th...
