The research associate will prepare a doctoral dissertation as part of the research project "Resilience and Vulnerability. European Noble Families in an Age of Revolutions 1760-1830," which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Through case studies of noble family networks in European middle states and smaller empires (Spain, Portugal, Sardinia-Piedmont, Saxony, Denmark) the project examines how aristocratic elites countered increased vulnerability in a period of upheaval and great political instability.

The Institute of History, Chair of Modern and Contemporary History (Prof. Dr. Christine Krüger; Principal investigator: Dr. Amerigo Caruso), currently seeks to fill a position for a part-time research associate (m/f/x; 50%) for a limited period of three years starting November 1, 2021. Duties: • The research associate will prepare a doctoral dissertation as part of the research project "Resilience and Vulnerability. European Noble Families in an Age of Revolutions 1760-1830," which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Through case studies of noble family networks in European middle states and smaller empires (Spain, Portugal, Sardinia-Piedmont, Saxony, Denmark) the project examines how aristocratic elites countered increased vulnerability in a period of upheaval and great political instability. • PhD thesis, presenting your research at international conferences, and supporting research anchored at the chair in the area of the above-mentioned project. Qualifications: • You obtained a master’s degree in modern history or any related field that has a strong historical focus (e.g. teaching degree in history, cultural studies with historical emphasis/perspective). Master students who are about to graduate in September are encouraged to apply as well. • preferably knowledge of the history of Europe and the Atlantic world in the Age of Revolutions. • preferably knowledge of transnational or comparative methodologies. • You have a good language proficiency in English as well as very good knowledge of another European language. • You are committed, flexible, team-oriented and interested in further training.
