Husserl Studies, 1986

I examine Husserl's theory of hyletic data and the critique of his theory ventured by a number of philosophers. Building on clues uncovered in this brief examination I propose an alternative theory that resolves the problems involved in modern dualistic approaches, in Husserl's theory, and in the various critiques of that theory. This alternative theory is posed in terms of the concept of the lived body developed in the phenomenological writings of both Husserl and Merleau-Ponty.

Plato in the Timaeus shows a strong interest in what we today would call ‘embodied cognition’, developing a detailed account of the physiology of perception. One striking aspect of this account is that he presents the whole body as involved in perception. The cardiovascular system allows the blood to transmit sensory affections to all parts of the body, while the soul-filled marrow, which is particularly sensitive, extends via the bones throughout body. Timaeus reserves for the intellectual part (to phronimon) a distinctive role in perception providing rational content and reflexivity to our perceptual experiences. He seeks to integrate the intellect within the perceptual system, not just anatomically, but also by showing perception itself to be a form of intelligence (phronêsis). The whole ensouled body thus emerges as a single perceptual system, gathering, sharing and reflecting on perceptual information as one. The paper concludes by placing Timaeus´ theory in the context of Pre-Socratic views about the involvement of the whole body in perception.

En 1990, Tim Berners-Lee, un joven estudiante del Laboratorio Europeo de Física de Partículas (CERN) situado en Suiza, desarrolló un nuevo sistema de distribución de información en Internet basado en páginas hipertexto, al que denominó World Wide Web (La “telaraña mundial”). La revolución de la Web había comenzado.

Abstract Boy choristers who sing in UK cathedrals and major chapels perform to a professional standard on a daily basis, with linked rehearsals, whilst also following a full school curriculum. This research will investigate the impact of this intensive schedule in relation to current vocal health and future development. This research reports the findings of a longitudinal chorister study, based in one of London’s cathedrals. Singing and vocal behaviour have been profiled on a six-monthly basis across three years using data from a specially designed perceptual and acoustic assessment protocol. The speaking and singing voice data have been analysed using a selection of techniques in current usage in both laboratory and clinical settings. Evaluation and comparison of these methods has enabled a range of effective assessment protocols to be suggested. The behaviour of the voice at the onset of adolescent voice change has been observed using electroglottogram data. The boarding choristers numbered thirty-four in total, eleven of whom were selected for longitudinal analysis. Similar acoustic data have also been collected from three other groups of boys, a total of ninety individuals, for comparative purposes. It has been possible to quantify the possible influence of both school environment and vocal activity on overall vocal health. Significant differences have been noted between the vocal health of the boys in the chorister group and the non-choristers; the boarding choristers, although having the highest vocal loading, have the lowest incidence of voice disorder. This would in itself suggest that either the voice is being athletically conditioned to support such activity, or that the chorister group employs some self-regulation with regard to overusing the voice. The comparison with various other groups of boys implicates the cultural and social influences of peer groups in voice use. The longitudinal observations of the choristers illustrate the development of vocal skills and the impact of increased choral responsibility on the vocal health of the individuals. It has also provided insights into the vocal behaviour during the onset of adolescent voice change with particular information about the vocal skills employed in the upper pitch range; the nature of phonation in the upper pitch range of trained boy singers entering voice change 3 resembles that of trained adult countertenors, rather than the usual adult male falsetto phonation. The results of this study enable us to understand better the effects of such training and performance on underlying vocal behaviour and vocal health in boy choristers.

Στο παρόν γλωσσάριο δεν περιλαμβάνονται οι ορισμοί των εννοιών (οι οποίοι υπάρχουν ήδη στο Αγγλοελληνικό γλωσσάριο όρων και ορισμών εννοιών αισθητηριακής ανάλυσης) και έχουν περιληφθεί οι ισοδύναμοι γαλλικοί και γερμανικοί όροι προκειμένου το τετράγλωσσο αποτέλεσμα (EN, GR, FR, DE) να εισαχθεί σε βάση όρων SENSOTERM, η οποία θα ενταχθεί στην Τράπεζα όρων του ιστοτόπου της ΕΛΕΤΟ και θα είναι διαθέσιμη για αναζήτηση μαζί με τις άλλες βάσεις της ΕΛΕΤΟ, για τις οποίες προβλέπεται αναζήτηση στις τέσσερις συγκεκριμενες γλώσσες. Analysis about level of bankruptcies in the banking firm is usually reflected on finance report and it need to do because bank is necessary institute on economy. The method that can be used is logistic regression. It is generally used to determine a relationship between response variable which has only two or more possible values with one or more predictor variable. The usual method of logistic regression is Maximum Likelihood Estimation where the parameter estimation process is preceded by the formation of likelihood function. Logistic Regression Model Parameter Estimates with small sample is caused bias estimation, it is one of the problems of logistic regression. To solve the problem, it can use resampling on data with bootstrap and jackknife method. One of the advantages of both method is can solve the estimation problem with good level of accuracy. Bootstrap is resampling with replacement, whereas jackknife is resampling without replacement by deleting d observation from real sample. Computers are needed to use those methods. In this research, the best method will be chosen to get the best possible estimate based on small sample from the minimum standard error. The data from previously research is illustrated in determination about level of bankruptcies in the Indonesian banking firm. Based on the results, jackknife deleted-2 is the best method to reduce the standard errors the amount of 0,033971.
