Soil is one of the most abundant construction materials of the nature used from the base of the structure. Almost all type of construction is built with or upon the soil. The most important part of a road pavement is subgrade soil and its strength. If the sub grade is not enough good the whole structure will face failure such as cracks, then stabilization is normally needed. Sub grade is sometimes replaced with stronger soil material or stabilized so as to improve the strength. Increase in sub grade strength may lead to economy in the structural thicknesses of a pavement. Cement, fly ash, lime, fibers etc. are very commonly used for soil stabilization. The main objective of this experimental study is to improve the properties of the soil by adding bitumen emulsion. In this study, the whole laboratory work revolves around the basic properties of soil and its strength in terms of CBR. Besides the bitumen emulsion, stone dust and brick dust are a kind of solid waste materials that are ...

With limited finances available, the biggest challenge in the developing countries like India is to provide a complete network of road system, particularly in providing connectivity to remote villages. The cost of road construction using conventional construction materials and methods has been increasing by leaps and bounds year after year. Therefore there is a need to resort to one of the suitable low-cost road construction methods by effectively utilising locally available materials and adopting Soil Stabilization Techniques. Thus the objectives of soil stabilized road construction are: (a) to affect economy in the initial construction cost of the lower layers of the pavement such as subgrade and sub-base course, and (b) possibility to upgrade the pavement structure to higher specification at a later stage by resorting to the stage – construction of the pavement to meet the growing needs of the road traffic. Thus construction of roads using the different Soil Stabilization Techniq...

In this paper IS code method is used to determine the optimum bitumen content for the given samples of different roads of subtropical climate zone of India. The analysis and testing has been done as per IS code-IRC: SP 11-1988 (Appendix-5) and ASTM D 2172. According to this IS code, all the samples should be tested in the lab with the help of bitumen extractor machine for the same five disturbed samples of bituminous intercity road of subtropical climate conditioned road has been collected from Gwalior city. The results of samples are compared together and with the actual gradation % of bitumen content described in IS-code. As per the analysis the binder content found out be 4.52%, 4.12%, 3.92%, 4.9% and 4.32% in sample 1,2,3,4 and 5 respectively.

In this research the excessive elastic deflections that would result in fatigue cracking within the layer or in overlying layers and to Preventive measure for excessive permanent deformation through densification is studied. The main objectives of the Research Work is to study the properties of the gravely soil by adding bitumen emulsion as stabilizing agent and to find the California Bearing Ratio value of soil subgrade. to optimize the strength of soil and its dry density properties.

Grading of bitumen is performed based on performance and it depends on the maximum and minimum location temperatures values of implementation pavement and traffic load. The objective of present research was survey of applied bitumen based on PG, climatic and traffic conditions as a case study. Using environmental conditions and an experimental study on hot asphalt, Marshall, aggregate and base layer samples were carried out in current research. These tests included temperature of pavement, Coarse and Fine Aggregate Angularity, Sand Equivalent, Coarse and Fine Aggregate and Los Angeles test, Resistance, Softness, Breakage, Deformation, Specific Gravity, Moisture of fine aggregate, Density, Aggregate Grading, LL, PL, PI, Empty space of asphalt, Compaction, Thickness of asphalt, Thickness of base layer, Space filled with bitumen, Bitumen/mixed asphalt, Bitumen / asphalt without bitumen, Empty space asphalt, aggregates and aggregate filled of bitumen. Using ESRI ARC GIS 10.2 Software a performance grading map was depicted to the Iran. According to the highest and lowest available temperature ranges of the asphalt, the country was divided into different zones. The asphalt properties with light, medium and heavy traffic were obtained in full agreement with required standard specification of asphalt for roads with heavy, medium and light traffic loads wearing course in case study. Therefore, locally asphalt or bitumen applied can be used without the need of modification in all parts of case study Province.

Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) is particulate composite material consisting of mineral aggregates, asphalt binder and air voids. Asphalt binder is considered as the most expensive and economically variable material. Because of the increase in energy cost, the need for improvement of pavement quality as well as concern over pollution and alternative binders are needed to modify , partially or totally replace asphalt binder. The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of ANSS on the conventional parameters of ANSS modified bitumen, to study the volumetric properties of Marshall Mix and to check the performance of mixture (moisture damage resistance by using Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS)) of Anyways Natural Soil Stabilizer (ANSS) modified bitumen. The test has been conducted on five binders namely 0%, 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12% ANSS by weight of asphalt binder. Common laboratory tests was performed on the modified bitumen asphalt mix using various proportions of ANSS and thus analyzed. Mar...
Soil is one of the nature's most abundant construction materials. Almost all type of construction is built with or upon the soil. If the sub grade is not enough good the whole structure will face failure such as cracks. Therefore the sub grade is normally replaced with stronger soil material so as to improve the strength but this is not economical. In this project the strength of soil is increased by adding bituminous emulsion instead of replacing with stronger soil. The initial strength of the soil is determined by conducting soil tests such as sieve analysis, plastic limit, liquid limit, shrinkage limit, Modified proctor compaction test and California bearing ratio tests. The results obtained are then compared with the soil treated with 10%, 20% and 25% of bitumen emulsion.
