Parent has been studying the impact of severe winter conditions on wild turkey survival. His study is being conducted just northeast of Crookston. His research objectives included estimating turkey survival, monitoring habitat use, estimating home ranges and recruitment, and measuring the effects of weather on released turkeys. “The demand for turkey populations is growing northward, but our understanding of the wild turkey ecology in northern habitats is inadequate,” said Parent. “I’m examining all aspects of wild turkey ecology to understand and determine if turkeys should continue to be released in northwestern Minnesota.” The public is invited to attend this free event sponsored by the Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society, University of Minnesota, Crookston.
