Denver Nuggets sign veteran big man to 2-year deal

Dario Saric has played seven seasons in the NBA, most recently for the Golden State Warriors.

DENVER — The Denver Nuggets are adding a veteran big man to their roster.

Dario Saric, a power forward and center who has played seven seasons in the NBA, is coming to the Mile High City on a two-year deal worth $10.6 million, according to ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski. He reports the deal includes a player option for the second year.

The 6-foot-10 Croatian has played for five teams since he was taken with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft, most recently with the Golden State Warriors.

He averaged 8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 37.6% on 3.1 three-point attempts across 64 games last season.

Saric will bring some much-needed shooting to the Nuggets' second unit who can help keep Nikola Jokic fresh and play next to him.

He's the second notable addition to the Nuggets' frontcourt this offseason after 6-foot-10 Daron Holmes II, who is also seen as a plus shooter for a big man, was taken with the 22nd pick in this year's draft out of the University of Dayton.

Saric and Holmes are the only additions the Nuggets have made so far this offseason after.

Denver lost starting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who agreed to a $66 million deal over three years with the Orlando Magic. Third-year wing Christian Braun is expected to take his spot in the starting lineup.

The Nuggets are likely still in the market for a backup point guard after dumping Reggie Jackson and draft picks to the Charlotte Hornets to clear up cap space.
