  • The Pre-Conference hacking days and Unconference are open to all attendees. The program for these days will be primarily informal.

New York City Weekend, July 6–9

See details at Wikimania Takes Manhattan.

Hackathon, AKA Newcomer-friendly project day, July 10-11

This hackathon is newcomer-friendly: no programming or background required. See details at Hackathon
  • If you want to get to know Wikipedia better and contribute without programming, you'll enjoy the list of tasks we've prepared that don't require programming.
  • If you want to do development, you'll enjoy the high-quality laptop setup guide we've prepared (you can work through it on-site).
  • Either way, you'll enjoy the special "beginners" table, with friendly people willing to help you. Prior experience with MediaWiki software, or even programming at all, is not required. Join us for the whole two days, or drop by for just a few hours!

AdaCamp, July 10–11

The Ada Initiative is holding its second AdaCamp (unconference) on July 10–11.

It is focused on increasing women’s participation in open technology and culture. AdaCamp brings together people to build community, discuss issues women have in common across open technology and culture fields, and find ways to address them. Open technology and culture includes open source software, Wikipedia and other wiki projects, open data, open government, fan/remix culture, open libraries, and more. Attendance is by invitation and attendees are selected from qualified applicants through an open invitation process. Attendance is open to people of all genders.

Attendance at AdaCamp is application-only, and applications closed June 22. Follow http://adainitiative.org/ for info on future AdaCamps.
