In the past, the child trafficker Carmel used her connections to enlist John Giant as the first giant in the Marines.

During the Loguetown Arc, John Giant delivered a speech about maintaining "Justice" when Monkey D. Luffy's first bounty was announced. In the Enies Lobby Arc, after the Buster Call was signaled, John Giant received the report and issued orders.

In the Amazon Lily Arc, upon the announcement of Portgas D. Ace's execution, John Giant reported to the summoning of Marines to reinforce Marineford.

In the Marineford Arc, three hours before Ace's execution, John Giant rallied 100,000 troops in Marineford for the upcoming battle. During the battle, he charged into the plaza, attacked the pirates, and engaged Whitebeard.

However, Whitebeard effortlessly overpowered him, causing John Giant to fall. Despite getting back up, he was ultimately defeated by Whitebeard's powerful quake punch to the chest.

John Giant is a serious and stern known for his loyalty.

John Giant is a giant with curly brown hair and a distinctive bulbous chin. Unlike most giants who have a more rounded stature, he looks mostly human. He wears a customized white Marine robe with yellow accents, red borders, and a decorated collar.

He carries awarded medals on his left breast, indicating his high rank. His attire includes a traditional red bicorne hat with the Marine symbol. John Giant wields a katana, fitting his size, slung over his shoulder.

John Giant, being a giant, possesses tremendous strength and endurance, far surpassing that of an average human. As a Vice Admiral, he holds command over lower-ranking Marines.

While the exact extent of his abilities is unclear, John faced the formidable Whitebeard, who swiftly defeated him. Like all vice admirals, John is assumed to have the capability to use Haki, a special power in the One Piece world.
