Diversity, Equity and Inclusion drive excellence in research, education and patient care at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Health Science Colleges.

Message from the Chief Diversity Officer

McDougle-Portrait

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Ohio State health science colleges, we aim to be an example of inclusive excellence, where all staff, faculty and learners have an opportunity to thrive in service to our patients and to the community.

Racism is a social determinant of health that we do not condone. Efforts are underway to build upon our existing foundation of inclusive excellence work to uproot beliefs and facilitate changing of attitudes that manifest as institutionalized, personally mediated or internalized forms of racism.

This new website will serve as a resource for you to identify opportunities for self-directed learning and provide diversity, equity and inclusion updates across Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and the health science colleges.

Please be sure to monitor this website for Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Diversity Council and Health Sciences Diversity and Inclusion updates on initiatives to thwart racism and advance the values, mission and vision of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and health science colleges.

Our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

  • 6 consecutive years we've been named an HRC Healthcare Equality Index Leader
  • #13 most diverse medical schools by U.S. News & World Report
  • 1st university to have five Insight into Diversity HEED recipients

Diversity and inclusion is our foundation for innovation

A diversity of cultures and life experiences strengthens our mission to provide evidence-based health care. It gives us a greater understanding and appreciation for each patient’s unique genetic makeup, behavior, experiences and beliefs.

From the way we recruit faculty, staff and students to the way we treat each and every patient, all of us at the Wexner Medical Center and College of Medicine consider diversity an essential part our mission.

Celebrating our unique differences

We strive to create environments, both in the workplace and in our patient care settings, where everyone feels empowered to share their full, authentic selves and can comfortably join in or stand out.

We celebrate the diverse voices of our patients, employees, volunteers and community members. It fuels our innovation and connects us closer to our patients and the communities we serve.

Five Health Sciences colleges named as HEED award recipients, making Ohio State the only academic institution in the country to have five colleges honored with the Health Professions HEED award.

The INSIGHT Into Diversity HEED Award, open to all colleges and universities across the U.S. and Canada, measures an institution’s level of achievement and intensity of commitment in regard to broadening diversity and inclusion on campus through initiatives, programs and outreach; student recruitment, retention and completion; and hiring practices for faculty and staff.

Ohio State is proud that five of our Health Sciences colleges have achieved this recognition, making Ohio State the only academic institution in the country to have five colleges honored with the Health Professions HEED award. Read more.
