IDF kills American woman: 26 year old American activist Aysenur Eygi died from a gun shot to the head after the Israeli military opened fire on a protest against settlements in the West Bank recognized as illegal by international law, and until earlier this year Israeli law as well. The IDF claims that they were responding with gunfire to a tossed rock. Eygi was a volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement, the same non-violent organization that Rachel Corrie was volunteering with when the IDF crushed her to death with a bulldozer in 2003. US officials are “gathering information.”

Hurricane Season Less severe than anticipated: Forecasters believed that the Atlantic Ocean would see a record setting number of hurricanes, but despite reaching the height of hurricane season, but it fell short of the 20 anticipated name-worthy storms. “If you had told me a month ago that nothing would (develop) after Ernesto I wouldn’t have believed you,” Phil Klotzbach, a hurricane expert and research scientist at Colorado State University, said. “It’s really surprising.” The strange season has been influenced by extreme atmospheric conditions that are a byproduct of climate change driven by fossil fuel pollution, experts said. And it could also be a “lens” into the more volatile storm behavior of the future, Matthew Rosencrans, lead hurricane season forecaster with NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, said.
