Highly economic development in the past brought Taiwan public an affluent living standard and we are gradually aware of the importance of environmental related issues. In the past, we emphasized general waste management, but did not pay too much attention on industrial waste and its illegal disposal has been occurred frequently. In July 1999, our government amended Waste Disposal Act, clearly defined the legal responsibility and punishment of the pollution caused party. We also defined the legal basis of the mandatory online reporting; this reinforces the existing waste flow inspection and controlling mechanism.
