Mini-conferences - One hour to understand Europe

One hour to understand Europe - that's the aim of the mini-conferences organised by Europa Experience and implemented by Toute l'Europe, where you'll learn that Europe isn't so complicated!

Come and talk to us! Take advantage of this opportunity to discover or deepen your initial knowledge and ask your questions at the heart of the 360° cinema at Europa Experience. It's a regular event, free of charge and open to all, with one promise: clear, jargon-free answers.

- General mini-conferences

Why was the European Union created? What are the European institutions? How do they function? What is the role of the Member States? Who makes ‘European laws’? Who does what? Who decides what?

Saturday 28 September - Saturday 12 October - Saturday 23 November - Saturday 7 December - Saturday 25 January - 3pm-4pm

Register here: https://paris.booking.europarl.europa.eu/

- Thematic mini-conferences

Thursday 3 October - 6.30-7.30pm - 1 hour to understand the role of the European Commissioners

After the European Parliament last June, another institution is up for renewal between now and the end of the year: the European Commission. How are its members appointed and how are their portfolios distributed? What role do the European Commissioners play in drafting European laws? As the candidates for the posts of Commissioners go through the crucial stage of hearings before the European Parliament, find out more about the job.

Thursday 17 October - 18h30-19h30 - 1h to understand... digital regulation in Europe - The tug of war between the European Union and the digital giants

Google, Amazon, META... Everyone knows these digital giants. But do we know that they are being closely monitored by Europe? From the fight against disinformation to the hunt for illegal content and consumer protection, the European Union has beefed up its digital rules.

How has the European Union changed our lives online? Does it have the resources to stand up to the digital giants? What is Europe's strategy on artificial intelligence?

Thursday 7 November - 18h30-19h30 - 1h to understand... the EU's role in international trade - European trade policy: the right balance between protectionism and free trade?

In an increasingly competitive global environment, trade is the subject of much debate. As the world's second-largest trading power, how is the European Union positioning itself in relation to the United States and China? How does it negotiate free trade agreements? How does it act against unfair competition? It is interesting to revisit European trade strategy in the light of the presidential elections in the United States, the EU's biggest trading partner.

Thursday 12 December - 6.30-7.30pm - 1 hour to understand... the enlargement of the European Union - Enlargement, a Europe of 35 in the future?

Will Ukraine join the European Union? What are the criteria for joining the 27 Member States? What stage has been reached in the accession procedure for the Balkan countries? While the enlargement of the European Union may have stagnated in recent years, the outbreak of war in Ukraine in February 2022 seems to have revived the process. While nine countries are currently candidates to join the European Union, the political and economic challenges remain numerous, both for the EU and for the countries that want to join.

Thursday 16 January 2025 - 18h30-19h30 - 1h to understand... the work of the European institutions – Members of the European Parliament (MEP) - European Commissioners: do they work together?

On the one hand there are 720 Members of the European Parliament, on the other 27 European Commissioners. MEPs are elected by the people, Commissioners are proposed by the Heads of State, and they all work together to draw up European legislation. How do they work together? Who proposes, who decides? As a new term of office begins, with a new Parliament and a new college of Commissioners, it is worth explaining the roles and missions of each.
