Overview

Join us in San Francisco for a conference on the advanced management of head and neck disease.  We have curated a multi-faceted program so that each learner can choose the training that suits their needs.  

On November 10th we have 2 different day-long Intensives open to anyone:

“Nuts and Bolts Behind Maximizing Communication and Swallowing Outcomes After Oncologic Treatments” is a livestream webinar offering practical training brought to you from the leaders of the UCSF Voice and Swallowing Center and other members of the multidisciplinary care team.  Attendees are welcome to join this session remotely or join the “Watch Party” in person at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and have the opportunity to mix and mingle with the faculty.

“Sialendoscopy and Surgery for Salivary Obstruction” will take place in person at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.  It will feature didactic lectures, a hands-on lab for skills practice with expert guidance, and an exhibit hall showcasing the latest technology and equipment.

The General Session “Updates in the Management of Head and Neck Disease” November 11-12th at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, can be taken on its own or in conjunction with a workshop above, for a discounted fee.  The goal of this in-person conference is to outline practical treatment strategies for patients with early and advanced head and neck cancers. The multidisciplinary approach to care will be featured along this spectrum. We will address topics relevant to practitioners involved in the diagnosis, management, surveillance, and supportive care of these patients. The teaching faculty represent some of the best and brightest at UCSF and from across the country.  These courses are suitable for physicians, nurses, NPs, speech language pathologists, physician assistants, physicians in training, and all others involved in the care of patients with head and neck disease.

Learning Objectives

We specifically anticipate improvements in skills and strategies to:

• Implement best practice in the complex, multidisciplinary delivery of care for head and neck cancer patients;
• Discuss updates in the management of oral cavity cancer;
• Optimize the use of pathology and radiology to guide head and neck, thyroid, and salivary cancer management;
• Evaluate the goals and techniques of head and neck reconstruction;
• Incorporate novel diagnostic testing in patient care;
• Determine the indications for gland preservation with sialendoscopy and salivary duct surgery versus submandibular or parotid gland resection;
• Introduce surgeon-performed ultrasound and its application for salivary duct disease diagnosis and intraoperative ultrasound-guided salivary duct procedures;
• Determine swallowing therapy techniques appropriate to optimize swallowing outcomes for patients with head and neck cancer;
• Provide rationale for the necessity of instrumental swallowing assessment in patients with head and neck cancer.

This conference will follow UCSF, city, state, and federal health and safety guidelines for meeting in person.  By registering for the in-person conference attendees agree to adhere to these guidelines.  We will provide information on any requirements in advance of the conference.
