The most recent 5G mobile communication access technology includes mmWave and sub-6 GHz C-bands. However, 5G signals possibly interfere with existing radio systems because they are using adjacent and co-channel frequencies. Therefore, the minimisation of the interference of 5G with other signals already deployed for other services, such as fixed-satellite service Earth stations (FSS-Ess), is urgently needed. The novelty of this paper is that it addresses issues using measurements from 5G base stations (5G-BS) and FSS-ES, simulation analysis, and prediction modelling based on artificial neural network learning models (ANN-LMs). The ANN-LMs models are used to classify interference events into two classes, namely, adjacent and co-channel interference. It is shown that the evaluation of the time-varying channel stationarity is essential before data processing for parameter extraction. This is illustrated by several examples using real-world datasets. I. INTRODUCTION In the past years, several models have been developed to characterize the behavior of Land Mobile Satellite channels. The LMS channel encounters a variety of environments, going from open area to lightly shadowed suburban and dense urban zones. Different approaches can be used: global (i.e. single pdf) statistical channel models (Rice, Loo, etc.) and state- oriented statistical channel models (two- or three-state Markov) as well as time series simulators using a set of parameters extracted from experimental data. This paper highlights the issue of evaluating the LMS channel stationarity in experimental data before carrying out any parameter extraction.

In the new generation of wireless communication standards, different propagation channel models are recommended for system simulations to develop new hardware. Every channel model needs to be validated by experimental measurement data, from pre-defined scenarios such as urban, suburban, remote or isolated housing estate, open field and vegetation covered area. As reliable data harvesting is a key issue, a low cost measurement campaign is being developed.

This study aims to characterize and model the rain fields for propagation studies from weather ra... more This study aims to characterize and model the rain fields for propagation studies from weather radar images of the northwest coast of Spain. The study includes the modeling of these images according to two well-known rain-cell models, EXCELL and HYCELL. For this analysis, a procedure for detecting rain field-s and an algorithm for identifying rain cells within the images is presented. This work is part of an ongoing activity, trying to develop dynamic space-time models of rain fields for simulating rain-induced effects on millimeter-wave communication systems.

The aim of the presented activities is to improve the quality and reliability of aircraft bound w... more The aim of the presented activities is to improve the quality and reliability of aircraft bound wide-band satellite transmissions for current and up-coming communication- and air-traffic management applications. To this end, simulation tools are in process of being developed which are based upon an improved model for the transmission channel. Among other influences, the effects of the airborne platform itself onto the electromagnetical pattern of airborne antennae for both fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft have to be assessed and quantified towards the end of inclusion into an updated channel model. Within this paper, the motivation, design and the experimental execution of a series of campaigns involving commercially available, off-the-shelf (COTS) antennae and four different aircraft (two fixed wing planes and two helicopters) are outlined. Moreover, the experimental execution is described and first results from these measurements are presented.
