Research fields:
Seventeenth and Eighteenth Venetian Painting, relationships between Venice and Rome, Venice and Europe, during Baroque and Rococo age, fortune of Renaissance venetian painting
In my MA dissertation (now published in 'Saggi e Memorie', 2007) I focused my researches on the cortonesque painters Giovanni Coli and Filippo Gherardi, who worked together in Venice, Rome and Lucca, during the second half of Seventeenth century. Their journey between 1662 and 1669 is a important moment for the birth of a Baroque style in
Venice.
In my research career I also studied the iconological meanings of Tiepolo's frescoes (Trionfo della Divina Eloquenza in Palazzo Sandi, Venice); the presences of venetian artists in Germany, especially in Eighteenth century, deepening the cases of Gaspare Diziani and Sebastiano Ricci. I also wrote some papers about venetian painters of 'Seicento', like Pietro Liberi and Antonio Domenico Beverense. I took part in some important exhibitions on Rosalba Carriera, Sebastiano Ricci and Giambattista Tiepolo.
My doctoral thesis was on the venetian painter Giambattista Crosato (2009), a contemporary of Giambattista Tiepolo, who also worked in Turin, for the Savoy court, and was a specialist of theatrical scenery, frescoes, and paintings on wood for boiseries and lambris, linked with the writer and amateur Francesco Algarotti for whom he painted his mansion at Carpenedo.
During the last two years (2011-2012) I was post-doctoral research at Padova University, developing a project about the artistic heritage in Padua in the Eighteenth century.
