This volume contains the edition and translation of the chapter of al-Maqrīzī’s al-Ḫabar ʿan al-bašar dealing with Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Franks, and Goths. This chapter is, for the most part, an almost exact reproduction of Ibn Ḫaldūn’s Kitāb al-ʿIbar, from which al-Maqrīzī derived material from many other sources, including prominent Christian sources such as Kitāb Hurūšiyūš, Ibn al-ʿAmīd’s History, and works by Muslim historians like Ibn al-Aṯīr’s Kāmil. Therefore, this chapter of al-Ḫabar ʿan al-bašar is a continuation of the previous Arabic historiographical tradition, in which European history is integrated into world history through the combination of Christian and Islamic sources.

Situé sur la rive ouest de Thèbes (Haute-Égypte), Deir el-Médineh, aussi appelé Set-Maat, la Place de Vérité, est un village d’artisans chargés au Nouvel Empire (1500-1070 av. J.-C.) de creuser, aménager, décorer et entretenir les tombes des nécropoles royales de la Vallée des Rois et la Vallée des Reines.
À la fin du Nouvel Empire, le village est abandonné par les artisans, mais la nécropole attenante continue d'être en activité jusqu'à la fin de la présence copte (8-9e s. ap. J.-C.). C'est cette période qu'étudie ce mémoire de master, effectué à l'Université de Lille en 2018-2020.

Il s'agit ici du volume 1, composé du corpus documentaire réalisé sous forme de fiches. Le volume 2 comporte la synthèse et les annexes.

Located on the west bank of Thebes (Upper Egypt), Deir el-Medinah, also known as Set-Maat, the Place of Truth, was a village of craftsmen charged in the New Kingdom (1500-1070 BC) with digging, fitting out, decorating and maintaining the tombs of the royal necropolises in the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens.
At the end of the New Kingdom, the village was abandoned by the craftsmen, but the adjoining necropolis continued to be active until the end of the Coptic presence (AD 8-9th century). It is this period that is studied in this master's thesis, carried out at the University of Lille in 2018-2020.

This is volume 1, consisting of the documentary corpus produced in the form of index cards. Volume 2 contains the synthesis and appendices.

Dans le cadre de la formation doctorale, tout doctorant est invité à communiquer sur l’état d’avancement de ses recherches et à développer ses liens avec le monde scientifique. Ce séminaire offre aux jeunes chercheurs belges travaillant sur tous les domaines de l’Antiquité Gréco-Romaine l’opportunité de présenter leurs recherches en cours et de rencontrer d’autres jeunes chercheurs des universités et institutions de recherches belges. Tous les étudiants intéressés par l’Antiquité sont également cordialement invités à participer à ce séminaire.
