Training! Qualifications! Exams! The SWW Professional Standards Board is here to help raise standards in our industry, and much of that starts with training. Tutored at The College of Will Writing, the SWWEPP Wills & Estate Planning Certificate is the foundation course for most members of The Society of Will Writers It covers an awful lot in a short time - culminating in an exam to test your knowledge. Remember this is just the start! There's loads of other things to learn as you progress in your new career. Insurance! It's one of the things that sets you apart from the competition! Lots of discussions around "unregulated" Will Writing companies suggest that they aren't insured. Well, if you are a member of The Society of Will Writers you MUST carry at least £2m Professional Indemnity insurance - it's a condition of membership. And your cover is checked at every annual audit. The Society offer a scheme specifically for members, or you can find our own cover - BUT be careful to check it does cover ALL the activities you are doing!. This is also a condition of membership of other Estate Planning organisations too. Meet the board! Shandip Shah. FSWW, MBA, ACIB is a long-standing, well respected, member of The Society of Will Writers. He has served on the PSB for many years. He tells us what he loves about this: "One recent role has been the mentoring initiative. This has given me huge satisfaction to guide a newbie in our industry and hopefully help them succeed in their chosen path of will writing and estate planning. In our series introducing you to the members of our board, we are delighted to introduce you to Helen Algar! She says: "I was lucky enough to be asked to join the PSB 3 years ago and have been involved with the Best Practice Guide, which will be an evolving guide, as time passes. Prior to running my own business, I worked in Private Client departments of two local Solicitors offices in Ipswich, after beginning my training years in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. I consider myself to have had the benefit of fantastic mentors, especially early on in my career, and hope this stands me in good stead to pay it forward with the support I can give others. By working with the other PSB members, we hope to influence the improvement of standards for clients seeking advice from members of The Society of Will Writers.
