Our latest student cohort has now completed almost 2 months of their 12-month placement programme! At the start of July, Lilly welcomed 50 students to our Basingstoke and Bracknell offices to complete a year-long placement across various functions. At Lilly Kinsale, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and improving sustainability across all aspects of our business. One of the ways we are doing this is through the provision of a Lilly bus service for employees. The service has been embraced by employees since it started in 2023, and now over 50 employees use the bus to travel from Cork city to Kinsale each day. We are reducing car numbers on the road, improving road safety in our rural neighbourhood, and providing a great option for those who cannot drive. There are two bus routes available for Cork city-based employees as well as those who live locally in Kinsale. It makes the commute to work more convenient and benefits employees and the environment - a win-win! #WeAreLillyUKandIreland

In a recent article, Sandra Dinan, Process Engineer in Small Molecule Manufacturing at Lilly Kinsale, discussed her journey through higher education and her time on our Engineering Graduate Programme. She gave insight into what her role involves and shared valuable advice for current students and recent graduates looking to break into the industry. Lilly Kinsale’s three year engineering graduate programme has been developed over the past decade in partnership with the UK’s Institution of Chemical Engineers. From their first day at Lilly, graduates are mentored by senior engineers and provided with development opportunities and experiences that are designed to help them achieve chartership. Two years ago, Lilly convened a project looking at the barriers to equal care faced by Black and South Asian people living with diabetes. We worked with an expert steering group of clinicians, community champions, and people living with diabetes to develop targeted recommendations for change, which we published as a ‘Charter for Change’ report. We were delighted to reconvene the steering group recently to discuss the report's impact, actions taken since its publication, and the work that remains to be done. Thank you to the steering group for your valuable contributions. We look forward to continuing our work to tackle inequalities in diabetes care. We are pleased to have contributed to this report published by the ABPI, exploring young people’s perceptions of careers in the pharmaceutical industry. The report highlights Lilly and MSD’s Health Equity Hackathon as a programme that supports high quality, diverse talent recruitment into the industry. Last year’s Hackathon provided an opportunity for undergraduate students to collaborate with peers from a diverse range of disciplines and backgrounds to explore the subject of health equity. We are continuing our efforts to engage the next generation of talent and build a diverse workforce.
