To celebrate Black History Month, our London office DE&I Committee embraced the theme of ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ by hosting a “read-along” event and discussion. Our newly formed "Crowell Page Turners" book club explored "The Lonely Londoners" by Samuel Selvon, a seminal work on the lives of West Indian immigrants in 1950s London. Through Selvon's narrative, we journeyed into experiences of hope, hardship, and community. Our discussion touched on themes of racial inequality, identity, and resilience, offering a powerful reminder of the importance of empathy and support in our diverse journeys. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and made this Black History Month impactful and meaningful. #UKBlackHistoryMonth #DEI
With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our London Women’s Leadership Institute and CroWellBeing Committees chose this week to raise awareness. We encouraged all staff to wear pink, take a Polaroid photo to pin on our office board, and donate to our chosen charity, Breast Cancer UK. Additionally, the Committees shared daily facts and information with everyone: 1. When it comes to breast cancer, knowledge is POWER so learning to spot the signs is vital. Early detection can SAVE lives. 2. Every year, around 56,000 people in the UK receive a breast cancer diagnosis. At least 30% are preventable. Educational workshops are available through Breast Cancer UK and in your local communities. 3. Breast cancer doesn’t just affect women. 1 in every 100 cases of breast cancer in the UK is in men. Men, it’s time to be aware too. 4. Let’s talk about women and breast cancer – it is one of the most common cancers affecting women globally today. 5. Support, help and advice is available through many fantastic charities across the UK, including, Breast Cancer UK and through local support groups in your area. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth2024 #ThinkPink #BreastCancerSupport #FindACure #EarlyDetection
