The report showcases the economic impact of the fashion industry and highlights the opportunity and need for the government to reset priorities for fashion policy based on the challenges the sector faces. Recommendations align with the “Growing Fashion’s Future – 5 Priorities” which we set out earlier in the year. Some interesting news in the #retail space this week: 1.  Accessories brand Aspinal of London Limited has appointed Laura Brown, former Harrods retail director, as CEO. 2.  Marks and Spencer has partnered with clothing repair and alterations experts, SOJO. This partnership will allow a dedicated clothing repair service for the first time. SOJO is on a mission to make tailoring and repairs more accessible. With M&S and SOJO having a shared set of values, the two businesses have come together, as partners in change. 3.  Avon was the first global cosmetics company to end animal testing and recently announced all avon products are now officially cruelty free. As part of its partnership with Cruelty Free International, Avon has been given the stamp of approval through its Leaping Bunny Program, the globally recognised gold standard which goes above and beyond legal requirements. 4.  JD Sports Fashion’ chief operating officer will leave the retailer after 12 years. Paterson joined the sportswear giant in 2012 as head of merchandise for footwear before becoming chief operating officer last year. She was also group operations director during her time. 5.  Carrefour inaugurated France's first Atacadão discount store on 20 June marking a significant shift in the French retail landscape. This Brazilian cash & carry model – often referred to as ‘hypercash’ - offering lower prices by selling in bulk, is a new concept for French consumers. The store aims to provide products at 10-15% cheaper than typical supermarkets. This launch is a strategic move by Carrefour to counter inflation and bolster French purchasing power, especially in economically challenged areas. #wholesale #discounter #people

A couple of weeks ago I spoke at the British Fashion Council IPF Forum exploring the future of the fashion industry in the UK. We discussed the skills required and the collaboration needed between brands, suppliers, and government. Something that I think is missing from the conversation on the future of work is about work culture and structures. It is about future-fit skills and how can we leverage AI, but it is also about how we want to work and what we need to do to enable that. The objective of our current work infrastructure is to achieve the maximum efficiency with the resources available with humans being one of those resources to extract value from. I would say the work culture has achieved its objective, but of course has caused a host of other problems along the way. If we were to set a new objective for work, what would it be given the world we’re in now and the future we hope to create? To create the conditions that enable individuals to thrive and contribute their gifts and skills? To solve the problems that are blocking people from having a good quality of life? To design solutions that heal and regenerate the target users in a way that is also healing and regenerative for those building the solution? What you would set as a new objective for the world of work?
