Funding Opportunity: Regional Programme Support Fund with Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival A new small grants scheme to support regional development in the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival. With funding from Creative Scotland, SMHAF are offering grants of between £250 – £1000 to support regional events. Applications are open to all, but SMHAF are particularly interested in supporting events in areas that are underrepresented in our programme. These areas currently include Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth and Stirling, as well as rural areas anywhere in Scotland, and other areas with limited access to the arts. SMHAF will also prioritise applications from anywhere in Scotland that directly engage communities who are most at risk of experiencing poor mental health. These include families at elevated risk, at-risk young people, refugees and asylum seekers, people living with long term conditions, and people from racialised communities. This fund is open to both organisations and individuals. It can support both new projects and ongoing work. SMHAF anticipate supporting projects across a diverse range of regional areas and communities. All activity must take place as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival 2024, with public events taking place from 10 – 27 October 2024. 📢 Join our call for a national movement strategy 📢 Today, Nuffield Health and the Richmond Group of Charities have published an open letter calling on the main political parties to commit to a new, cross-government National Movement Strategy within the next Parliament. This strategy must prioritise movement and physical activity, making it a key pillar in the prevention, management, and treatment of long-term health conditions, including many musculoskeletal conditions. The latest data tells us that: - 20 million people live with long-term health conditions - Low-income individuals are 4 times more likely to have multiple conditions - 2.8 million people are economically inactive due to long-term sickness Unfortunately, data from our Healthier Nation Index shows that 3 in 4 people aren’t meeting the NHS’ daily exercise recommendation, with physical activity being a key risk factor for developing long-term health conditions. To prevent a worsening of the nation’s health, we must address the nation’s inactivity and prioritise the role of physical activity in rebuilding the health of the nation. Our letter builds on the momentum of our partners within the sector, with recent campaigns from the Community Rehabilitation Alliance and the National Sector Partners Group calling for the next government to recognise the often-underutilised role of physical exercise and sport in supporting our nation’s health.
