Beware of the lowball offer It may seem tempting to offer less than someone's salary expectations but this usually has a detrimental effect. If you offer less, you run the very real risk of putting someone on the backfoot, as straight away they start to question how committed you are to having them join you and actually do you really properly value them at all? It's good to be financially astute but not at the cost of losing someone who is the perfect fit for your team. Track your wins: Keep a dynamic record of positive feedback, notable case wins, and contributions. Quantify your achievements in terms of billings and business development. Show your value: Demonstrate how your work impacts the firm’s bottom line. Highlight high billable hours and contributions to the firm's reputation. Build a business case: Clearly outline how promoting you will benefit the firm’s goals and success. Be your own advocate: Speak up about your achievements. 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞-𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒐 𝒄𝒐𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒐𝒚𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒔? ● On 18th July 2024 the statutory Code of Practice on Dismissal and Re-engagement came into force. ● The Code permits employment tribunals to uplift compensation by up to 25% if an employer unreasonably fails to follow it in relevant cases. ● It will be applied in a similar way to the Acas Code on Grievance and Disciplinary Procedures. ● Protective awards for failure to inform and consult in collective redundancy situations are excluded from the Code. ● So employers will need to usually conduct a fair consultation to: 1. Avoid falling foul of accusations of unfair dismissal (if the employee is eligible to claim this) 2.
