We’re doomed. Doomed. Or are we?   The Darzi Report has landed and it’s uncomfortable reading.   It does see a way forward through digital, but notes that the NHS “is in the foothills of digital transformation”. We are in a privileged position at Channel 3 Consulting, the work we do with our clients gives us cause for optimism rather than pessimism.   We see, on a daily basis, tangible evidence of the difference that digital transformation has made to Trusts, clinicians, patients and citizens.   We’d like to draw attention to those innovators and visionaries who do see the promised uplands, even if we are standing in the foothills.   We’ve been partnering Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust Whittington Health and North Central London Cancer Alliance on a feasibility study to use remote technology and AI imagery within dermatology cancer pathways, to save thousands of unnecessary referrals, freeing up valuable resources and giving time back to care. As the report says, dermatology consultations are “excellent examples of technology having an important impact in the NHS”.   Our clients Camilla Dobinson, Zak Buttle, Ioulios Palamaras, Ben Esdaile and our team Josh Hutchison Tom Sara and Alice Green have been instrumental in driving this transformation to improving the lives of patients and the efficiency of the NHS.   It’s going to be a long journey for the NHS but from where we stand it looks far from doomed.   #causeforoptimism #darzi #digitaltransformation #channel3

It's _all_ about solid, ethical #data #governance. Without those fundamental underpinnings, major (or minor) data and #AI initiatives will, at best, underperform and, at worst (and entirely likely) cause damage across a range of spheres, from emotional to ecological to physical to financial.

Former Monzo web engineer Peter Huang and ex-Accenture consultant Raj Kohli in 2021 have just raised £2.7 million to automate painful healthcare processes within the NHS. Healthtech 1, a London-based startup, is set up to streamline administrative tasks in primary care, addressing inefficiencies and error-prone manual processes. Unlocking the potential of UK HealthTech: Key findings > The HealthTech sector is a key sector for the UK, with growth potential The HealthTech sector is a significant contributor to the UK economy with an annual turnover of £34 billion in 2022 and offering employment to more than 150,000 professionals. In a recent report by Imperial College London, the sector Gross Value Added showed a 19% compound annual growth rate between 2016-2020 for MedTech (which adopts a narrower definition than HealthTech). > The UK is a net importer of HealthTech products and services According to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (“MHRA”), there are approximately 2 million products registered for use on the UK market. The UK is a net importer of HealthTech, exporting over £5 billion worth products and services annually, and importing around £7.5 billion of HealthTech products. > The geographical spread of the UK HealthTech sector goes beyond London and the Golden Triangle The Golden Triangle, encompassing London, Oxford (South East), and Cambridge (East of England), is undeniably a prominent hub for research and development in the field of life sciences and medicine. It is a bold vision and such an exciting opportunity to make some truly world-beating changes to the way that healthIT ecosystems are delivered. It is, of course, a monumental challenge, not to be underestimated ('net-zero' scale) but I think a bit of cunning expansion of Shared Care Record extracts alongside truly patient-centric, longitudinal, vendor-neutral records like London Universal Care Plan would give some very quick wins. Truly making a change will require us gradually to get the primary/original record out of EPRs and into vendor-neutral stores, not just extract/copies of those records, where safe. scalable synchronisation and coherence is virtually impossible.
