We have our first ever blog from a man! Dr Bill Crofts, from the University of Warwick Satellite Team (WUSAT), celebrates the achievements of women in engineering and says the most cohesive and well-organised teams have been those with a healthy male/female mix. He’s keen to point out that having women engineers in the department brings an important quality of leadership and organisation which he would not want to be without. It’s not exactly hot news that only around 15% of the engineering workforce is female, with just a smattering of women working in university engineering departments. But work being carried out to help redress this balance by Professor Anne Nortcliffe FInstMC FIET CEng SFHEA reports pleasing results. In her Women-Space blog on improving diversity in the sector she explains her strategy includes promoting flexible working, addressing unconscious bias across the whole team and sharing interview questions to all applicants ahead of the interview to boost the number of successful neurodiverse candidates.
