Time management is a perennial issue which can affect women more than men. To help you get the balance right and decide how to prioritise the various elements of life, we’ve put together a handy guide. There’s a fascinating pie chart in there comparing what we think makes us productive vs what actually does. Hint – one of the graphics includes sleep, healthy eating and exercise!! The blog also contains a link to a test to help you see just how good or otherwise you are at managing the limited hours we have on this earth!! We have our first ever blog from a man! Dr Bill Crofts, from the University of Warwick Satellite Team (WUSAT), celebrates the achievements of women in engineering and says the most cohesive and well-organised teams have been those with a healthy male/female mix. He’s keen to point out that having women engineers in the department brings an important quality of leadership and organisation which he would not want to be without. Worryingly, while 24% of the working age population declares a disability, only 6% of job applicants will state it on their application. In her blog for Women Space, Professor Anne Nortcliffe FInstMC FIET CEng SFHEA looks at how organisations can encourage more people with disabilities to apply for jobs with confidence from the outset. Career advice books seem to be two a penny. But many of those pennies fall on stony ground. So we at Women-Space have saved you plenty of wasted time – and cash – by shortlisting our favourite three books which have transformed our thinking when looking to advance our careers. Between them, these books look at how to navigate sexism, examine the importance of vulnerability and authenticity in leadership and explore how values respected during our student lives can hold us back as we attempt to move into a leadership role. Find out which books we recommend in our handy blog here: https://lnkd.in/eqcsYE9A

It’s not exactly hot news that only around 15% of the engineering workforce is female, with just a smattering of women working in university engineering departments. But work being carried out to help redress this balance by Professor Anne Nortcliffe FInstMC FIET CEng SFHEA reports pleasing results. In her Women-Space blog on improving diversity in the sector she explains her strategy includes promoting flexible working, addressing unconscious bias across the whole team and sharing interview questions to all applicants ahead of the interview to boost the number of successful neurodiverse candidates. As an enthusiast for self-compassion, our CEO Prof Christina Hughes was fascinated to read Dr. Kristin Neff's analysis of the physiological benefits of hugging yourself. One of its many benefits is its ability to increase levels of feel-good hormones like oxytocin. Find out more about why hugging is good for you here: https://lnkd.in/gMZsqbw
