🎉 The celebration continues, Edinburgh was great! Thank you to everyone who joined us on Wednesday at Brodies LLP Edinburgh to celebrate WISTA UK’s 50th anniversary. We had an inspiring panel discussion on the incident response and management of the KAAMI, a cargo vessel which ran aground on Sgeir Graidach during the peak of the 2020 lockdown. With a full house and a stunning view of #Edinburgh Castle from the terrace, the event was truly memorable! A special thanks to Jucilla Walters MSc, BA Hons for warmly welcoming guests, and to our host and moderator, Duncan MacLean (Brodies solicitors), for the lovely drinks and canapés. Special thanks to our expert panellists - Stephan Hennig (SOSREP), Alexandra Couvadelli, LLB, LLM Nicky Cariglia, Allan Stuart and Victoria Anderson for sharing their invaluable insights on the challenges during the wreck removal and achieving a successful resolution. Shipping incidents do happen, and a swift, coordinated response is essential to save lives and protect our environment. Looking forward to hosting more events in Scotland in 2025! Stay connected with us for updates on what’s next. #WISTAUK50 #Shipping #SalvageandWreck, #MaritimeIncidents, #CasualtyResponse Waves Group Ltd,Gard AS,

We kicked off WISTA UK's 50th-anniversary celebrations with an insightful discussion on the transportation of Dangerous Cargo on container vessels. This marks the first of many events to be hosted in the North – it was fantastic to see so many familiar faces from London in attendance! As we work to strengthen connections across the UK, we’re eager to partner with more organisations in the North to expand our network and share invaluable knowledge. A big shoutout to Mills & Co Solicitors and Waves Group Ltd for sponsoring the event, and to our fantastic moderator, Kate Gillespie, and expert speakers Eva McKiernan, Amy Nicolaou, Julie Pichler, and Paul Coates MBA MCMI MiFireE for their insights into the challenges faced when managing dangerous cargo incidents. The WISTA International AGM and Conference took place last week, which was a celebration of WISTA's 50th anniversary. Members and presidents from WISTA associations worldwide attended the conference, which was all made possible by the warm welcome of WISTA Cyprus and its President Natalia Bury Loyal. We heard from high-calibre speakers the First Lady of Cyprus Philippa Karsera, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, the Shipping Deputy Minister of Cyprus Marina Hadjimanolis, and the International Maritime Organization Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez. During the conference, a roundtable discussion between national WISTA associations was held, followed by the AGM which introduced new members to NWA (now a total of 62 nations) and an awards ceremony where WISTA UK received a certificate of appreciation for its dedication to WISTA's mission for 50 years. The conference was followed by an exceptional gala dinner with WISTA's incredible global community in a beautiful setting. Thanks to Teresa Peacock for representing WISTA UK, and to all those who made this an unforgettable experience. 🙏 #WISTAInternational #WISTAUK50Years #WomeninShipping

WISTA UK joined the 119th Annual National Service for Seafarers at St Paul's Cathedral in London, which highlights the dedication and resilience of seafarers and those who support them across the maritime sector. The service was well attended and made even more special by the presence of HRH Princess Royal who read the 'Good Samaritan' (Luke 10: 25-37), providing a timely and poignant reminder of the selfless contributions seafarers make to keeping global trade flowing smoothly. Jucilla Walters MSc, BA Hons represented WISTA U.K. by reading a prayer for the King and Commonwealth during the ceremony. Other readings attributed to 200 years of the RNLI and 50 years of WISTA UK. We feel honoured to be part of celebrating the brave women at sea and across the maritime industry. #Seafarers #FemaleSeafarers #MaritimeCommunity
