Build a self check of your vulva into your monthly routine. Great tips from Dr. Aziza Sesay and an important new tool from The Eve Appeal to help you check for vulval cancer symptoms for #GynaecologicalCancerAwarenessMonth👇
General Practitioner | Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer | Host | Speaker | Educator | Health Content Creator | Ambassador | Vice Chair & Creative Director - Black Female Doctors UK | UN Women UK delegate
Do you check your vulva? Yes, just as with other self checks such as breast/chest/pecks, vulva checks are also important. This is so you know your normal and so you can pick up any changes early, even if it’s the slightest change. Get them checked out as soon as possible and if they do turn out to be cancer (which is rarely the case) - yes, vulval cancer can and does occur - it is picked up early where treatment is more likely to be successful, less invasive and curative. Our bodies are hypersexualised, riddled with shame and stigma and as such, many are too embarrass to even check. The censorship on many platforms certainly doesn’t help. A new survey YouGov from The Eve Appeal for #GynaecologicalCancerAwarenessMonth shows that that only Only 4% of women regularly check for vulval changes. 79% of women had never checked their vulva for changes or signs of cancer, and amongst those who have heard of vulval cancer before, almost half (48%) have never checked. This needs to change! Please help us by sharing this video guide on how to do the checks, it could save someone’s life!! The Eve Appeal have launched ‘Self-Check First’, a monthly text reminder to check the vulva for any changes, along with a ‘how-to’ guide to support self-checking ofgynaecological symptoms. This Rainbow Baby Day, Asiya shares her story of multiple miscarriages, cultural stigma, and how it felt to finally give birth to her Rainbow Baby. After many miscarriages, Asiya set up the Asian Miscarriage Hub, to support others going through pregnancy loss. When she tried to speak with friends and family following her miscarriages, she felt shut down and dismissed. It is rare to acknowledge miscarriage in her community - her mother only revealed her own after Asiya came forward about hers. Losing her pregnancies was a great loss, and she no longer wanted to sweep it under the rug and pretend that everything was fine. When she had her rainbow baby Aidah, she said “it felt like a sense of achievement, all those years when we had struggled were forgotten about in that moment." She added, "I remember looking at my husband saying we did it." The Asian Miscarriage Hub is a member of The Health Collective, a group of grassroots organisations representing women’s voices from every marginalised community in our society, who are calling on the UK government to #CloseTheHealthGap. Find out how you can help – link in comments. #RainbowBabyDay #PregnancyLoss #Miscarriage #TheHealthCollective

Women’s health can have a profound impact on some women’s experiences in the workplace. While some may never experience painful periods, miscarriage or have difficulties going through the menopause, others experience strong symptoms that affect all areas of their life, including their work. There's so much that businesses can do to support women. That’s why we’re pleased to be teaming up with the Women in Work Summit to share ways workplaces can close the health gap and develop a workplace policy and culture that makes a real difference. Check out their interview with our CEO Janet Lindsay to learn more about how workplaces can support women's health and learn more about the summit 👇
We are delighted to support the incredible charity Wellbeing of Women – a women’s health charity saving and changing the lives of women, girls and babies through research, education and campaigns. We caught up with Janet Lindsay, CEO of Wellbeing of Women, to tell us more about what they do and why supporting women in the workplace is so important. It's never "Just a Period". 20% of girls said their period leaves them 'bed-bound' or unable to do anything in our survey. Girls don't need to suffer in silence. Support is available. But how do girls affected by debilitating symptoms find out how to access it? Two young women Freya and Zaynah shared their stories of finding support for their menstrual health on today's BBC 5 Live with Naga Munchetty, alongside our ambassador Dr. Aziza Sesay, who joined them to discuss the importance of education for girls and women around their periods. Listen in at 0:44 & 1:41: https://lnkd.in/edCZDX8T If you want to support our #JustAPeriod petition which calls for better period health education, take a look at the link in the comments. #MenstrualHealth #JustAPeriod #Periods #Endometriosis #Adenomyosis
