One year ago, my colleague and friend Keeyong Chung, the Ambassador of South Korea in Morocco was invited by Neila Tazi at the Gnaoua Festival in Essaouira to explain the global influence of the K Pop as one of the most successfull Soft Power strategy of the last decade. Keeyong explained there is no magic formula, but because of the cars and fridges his country was selling to the world, the K Culture was able to export and to consolidate it's country's reputation. This assumption adds quite nicely the economy as a fourth pillar of the soft power, usually defined by three others : political values, culture, and foreign policy. The soft power of #SouthernBelgium is not only its vaccines, clean technologies or its beers. It is also its talents. We, at the General Representation of Wallonia-Brussels in the United Kingdom are therefore proud to support the immense musical talent of our artists. Whether they are seasoned or up and coming, we are amazed by the creativity, resilience, and boldness of our musicians from every genre. Belgium is proud to be the land of electronic dance music with popular genres such as techno, new beat, house and trance. Dance music has even been officially recognised as an intangible cultural heritage of its capital. Last week, it was therefore a great pleasure to work with the famous Dour Festival and Warmer People to showcase brilliant performers that we see being appreciated all around the world and that has blow the audience of the Village Underground away during the "Dour Festival in London Night". “The General Representation of Wallonia-Brussels in the UK played a pivotal role in shaping this event,” explain Warmer People’s Thom Grant and Nathan Colinet to Mixmag. “Their active participation in the event organisation underscored the significance of electronic music events for Belgium. By acknowledging the event's importance to Belgium, they highlighted its cultural relevance.
