We are very proud to support Show Racism the RED Card Wales 🟥 All staff members at Wales Golf are currently engaging in a powerful anti-racism training program, led by Show Racism the Red Card. This initiative, funded by the Welsh Government through the Culture, Heritage, and Sport fund as part of the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan, is comprised of six in-depth modules. The training aims to deepen our understanding of racism and its impact on sport, and to provide practical strategies to effectively address and combat it. #WRD24 | #EveryonesGame ⛳️

We are saddened to hear of the recent passing of Ian Edwards, Chief Executive of Celtic Manor Resort and ICC Wales. Ian played a huge role in ensuring the success of the 2010 Ryder Cup and was integral to the delivery of many Wales Opens and other golf events on site. Just as importantly, in his many wider roles such as on the Visit Britain Board, Ian was a fantastic advocate for Wales, Welsh Tourism and more specifically promoting Wales as as golf tourism destination. Wales Golf sends its sincere condolences to Ian’s family and friends. He will be sorely missed.

The Celtic Collection is deeply saddened to announce that Ian Edwards has passed away following a period of illness, with his loved ones by his side. The Chief Executive Officer of Celtic Manor Resort and ICC Wales, Ian was an inspirational business leader who left an indelible mark on the hospitality and tourism industries in the United Kingdom. He was a driving force in growing the Celtic Manor Resort into one of Europe’s premier destinations for golf, leisure, business and high-profile events, as well as the recent expansion of The Celtic Collection into Wales’s largest independent hotel group. Under Ian’s guidance, the Celtic Manor Resort hosted global events like the 2010 Ryder Cup, one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, and the 2014 NATO Summit. His work with ICC Wales further demonstrated his passion for boosting business tourism, creating a world-class venue that has brought in international conferences and events, providing lasting economic benefits for the region, Wales and the UK. Leading the tributes, Simon Gibson, CBE, Board Member of Celtic Manor Resort, said: “Ian Edwards will be remembered as a visionary leader whose contributions to the hospitality sector have left a lasting legacy in Wales and beyond. His dedication, warmth, and innovative spirit will continue to inspire the industry for years to come. “Ian often credited his successes to the hardworking teams he led, fostering an environment of innovation and excellence in the sector. His vision extended beyond business, as he also revitalised the local community through his role in initiatives such as the ReNewport Task Force and the Business in the Community Place Programme. “Ian will be greatly missed by colleagues and friends, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family.” Ian was a Master Innholder and a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality. He served on the Boards of Visit Britain and the Western Gateway.

Wales Golf is deeply saddened by the passing of two remarkable individuals who each left a lasting mark on Welsh Golf. Brian Huggett’s passion for Welsh golf and the Ryder Cup was unparalleled. He was instrumental in bringing the prestigious tournament to Wales, and his playing career put him in the top bracket of golfers ever produced in our country. Keith Price, former Welsh Golfing Union President, was highly respected by all who met him. He was pivotal in establishing the Wales Golf Rules Schools, which led to more than 200 people qualifying as referees. Both will leave a lasting legacy in Wales Golf, and we cannot thank them enough for their contribution to our sport. Diolch yn fawr, Brian a Keith. May you rest in peace.
