The Skill Share Project in Newport and Pembrokeshire is all about connecting people through the power of skills. Led by the interests of local communities, this exciting initiative brings together younger and older generations to learn from each other, build meaningful connections, and reduce isolation. Whether through workshops, one-on-one sessions, or group activities, participants gain valuable skills—like creating CVs, mastering interview techniques, basic IT, and First Aid. These aren’t just skills for today; they’re stepping stones to employment, empowerment, and lifelong relationships. About us
EVERYONE IN THE UK SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO THRIVE. So we bring people together to overcome some of society’s most complex issues through the power of volunteering. We partner with communities to overcome adversity, tackling social isolation and loneliness, improving health, developing skills and opportunity and making sure young people can lead change. And because we’re a national charity, we do this at scale, sharing our expertise and building partnerships to make an even bigger impact. In 2020 we launched a new strategy – Volunteering Matters Strategy 2020. Based on the impact our volunteers and programmes have in communities across the UK, we are bringing people together through volunteering to build stronger communities so that everyone has an opportunity to thrive. Our place-based approach, which is shaped by local knowledge, energy and understanding, is designed to support people in their local communities to overcome the challenges they may face and to unlock their potential. We provide a platform for volunteers, young people, and communities to challenge existing structures and work with decision-makers to overcome barriers and inequalities. Across the Volunteering Matters family – including ProjectScotland, Get The Gen, Employee Volunteering and #iwill – we turn local knowledge and energy into action and progress, building stronger communities and a better future for all.

"It’s not about being a specialist. If you can start a conversation, you can volunteer." See how our Family Mentors in Southend are supporting families in challenging situations by simply being there, offering a non-judgmental ear, and using their own life experiences to guide them forward. Thank you to Southend-on-Sea City Council for funding this transformational work. #mentoring #volunteering #socialaction #community 📽 https://lnkd.in/eJrg5qMN

We’re thrilled that our London Young Ambassadors project has been shortlisted for the 2024 Children & Young People Now Awards in the Youth Volunteering and Social Action category! #CYPNowAwards Since 2021, we've partnered with 78 schools and over 850 young Londoners to drive youth social action on crucial issues like mental health, racism, and homelessness. Together, we've seen incredible impact, not just on the young people involved, but also on the 150+ teachers who’ve been part of this journey. A huge congratulations to all the other nominees! Volunteering Matters reposted this
So happy to see this incredible report shared by Vision for Volunteering which was put together by Volunteering Matters. It highlights the power of community driven initiatives like Bloom - a group that holds a special place in my heart🩷 For those unfamiliar, Bloom is a Nuneaton-based community group that helps refugee women integrate by offering language lessons, skill-building workshops, and social activities. What's truly inspiring is that Bloom was founded by a Syrian refugee volunteer during the COVID lockdown. It started with just 4-5 women online and over the last 3 years it has grown to support over 20 women in-person every Thursday morning. This is a beautiful example of how tailored, place-based approaches in volunteering can make a lasting impact for refugees in communities. And to think it all started with a simple coffee morning idea ☕😊 Warwickshire County Council The Business Network Warwickshire Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council #Community #PlaceBased #Volunteering #Volunteers #Refugees #Funders #NewApproaches #Impact #Support
Our latest blog is a special one - showcasing a brilliant project led by our friends and partners at Volunteering Matters focusing attention on how volunteers in place-based projects relate to the themes and aims of #VisionForVolunteering Huge thanks goes to the Volunteering Matters team and the marvellous volunteers who contributed their thoughts, stories and ideas to the work. Grab a cuppa, read the blog and most importantly, check out the amazing, interactive report! ☕ ⬇ https://lnkd.in/eB-RDE2n

Last week we had the pleasure of meeting with Elaine Brown, CEO of The Edinburgh Remakery to receive a second-hand laptop for one of the parents we’re supporting through the Parental Employability Support project. This laptop will be a game-changer, allowing the mum to access online English classes while caring for her disabled son at home. A huge thanks to Edinburgh Remakery and all our partners.
