As the 2024 edition of Art Basel arrived in Paris last week, we welcomed guests for a spectacular red-carpet event in the heart of Paris in celebration of JR and L’Observatoire, the latest tale on over a hundred years of history for the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Guests were invited to take a first look at L’Observatoire: the train’s most exclusive sleeper carriage to join the train in March 2025, created by JR. Joining from the music, fashion and film worlds, guests were among the first to experience the magic and sense of wonder that the L’Observatoire inspires. As the train departed from Paris, JR took every attendee on an intimate tour that offered a peek into the secrets hidden in the marquetry and the micro-environments that flow throughout the carriage. After previewing the Suite, a special menu crafted by Jean Imbert was served as the historic train wound through the Parisian night. An artwork in motion, created by pioneering artist JR. The latest tale in over a hundred years of history for the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, the L’Observatoire Suite was unveiled in Venice earlier this year. A historic floating display, visitors were granted a first look inside, peeking into L’Observatoire as it was presented on a barge on the Venice canal in a dreamlike moment. JR is the creative mind behind several monumental works that take buildings and cities as their canvas, from Paris’ Palais Garnier to the Great Pyramid of Giza. To create the suite, old masters of marquetry and stained-glass were called upon, alongside burgeoning artisans to create a space that feels like entering JR’s imagination. L’Observatoire is an invitation to experience his unending quest for creativity that has been brought to life in every detail. On the rails in 2025, L'Observatoire is now available to book. Vienna to Reims hosted by Veuve Clicquot on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. ⁣ A once-in-a-lifetime experience where celebration and radiant art de vivre intertwined. Capturing the essence of slow luxury and the art of living, the journey was the destination of the Solaire experience. As the train travelled towards Reims, pine clad mountains were replaced by ancient vineyards and historic chateaux. An epicurean experience unfolded, where a gala dinner was complemented by timeless and rare Veuve Clicquot cuvees. The dream tablescapes of the train's art-deco dining cars set the tone of the evening as views evolved from Vienna to the alpine scenery of Innsbruck. Waking up in the Champagne region, guests started the day with a sparkling celebration. Arriving in Reims, passengers were met by a special culinary experience hosted by Jean Imbert and Mory Sacko within the UNESCO-listed crayères.
