💡New blog alert! As part of the lead-up to #WorldSuicidePreventionDay, we are launching the first of two blogs that explore the impact of key policy changes on suicide prevention. This week, we dive into the decriminalisation of suicide and the crucial role it plays towards reducing stigma, preventing suicide mortality, and creating a supportive environment for broader mental health initiatives. Suicide is a complex public health challenge, but by enacting evidence-based policies, we can directly influence outcomes and create meaningful change. These policies are vital steps toward tackling the social and cultural determinants of mental health. 👉Read the full blog by Aastha S. here: https://lnkd.in/dMzbtqGY

🔊 CALL FOR COLLABORATION ON WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY CAMPAIGN 🔊 As many of you may know, this year's #WorldMentalHealthDay theme is: It is time to prioritise mental health in the workplace. At United for Global Mental Health we recognise the need to prioritise the mental health of our health workforce. Therefore we have chosen to highlight the importance of creating and strengthening positive work environments for the mental health and wellbeing of our current and future health workforce. We are looking for healthcare workers to share their stories with us as part of our campaign. If this is something you are interested in partnering with us on, we’re keen to work together based on the guide below. You can choose to nominate yourself or to connect us with 1-2 healthcare workers from your network that we could have a call with to write up stories of mental health in the workplace. You could connect them directly to us at ([email protected]) and then we will put them in touch with our Workforce project lead Hamdi I. and Jo Harrison, our Communications Director - as they are leading this piece of work. Kindly note, with your informed consent, we would use these videos on our social media channels, as well as our website and newsletters. A copy of the consent form is attached for your review. 🔗 : https://lnkd.in/dhr_EEgm 🤗 Spread the word across your networks, we look forward to hearing from you. #WorldMentalHealthDay

🌍25 countries still criminalise suicide, where individuals who attempt to take their own lives face arrest, prosecution, and even imprisonment. The criminalisation of suicide attempts does not deter suicidal behaviour, but it does lead to underreporting of such attempts, making it harder to address the issue and deterring people from seeking the mental health support they need. 🌟Learn more about what it takes to decriminalise suicide in our report researched together with the Trust Law, Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono legal programme. This report will be launched and available on our website this #WorldSuicidePreventionDay on September 10. The theme for World Suicide Prevention Day is ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide’. It aims to inspire individuals, communities, organizations, and governments to engage in open and honest discussions about suicide and suicidal behaviour. By initiating these vital conversations, we can break down barriers, raise awareness, and create better cultures of understanding and support. As individuals, communities, organisations, and government, we all have roles to play in changing the narrative on suicide. By addressing these areas and working collaboratively across sectors, we can create a more supportive and compassionate society where suicide is preventable, and everyone feels valued and understood. Visit our website to find some examples of how you can contribute not only over World Suicide Prevention Day but through into our everyday lives: https://lnkd.in/gU7tE4-W #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #WSPD2024 #StartTheConversation
