The first week of the new school term is key to a successful year. It’s always great to see excited pupils, back in the classroom, ready from day one 📚 As this new school year begins, Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson, is focusing on 👇 🚸 Breaking down the barriers to opportunity and giving each and every child the best start in life. 🏫 Scrapping single headline Ofsted judgements for schools to help drive high and rising standards in our schools and give parents clearer, broader information to choose the best school for their child. Report cards will be introduced from September 2025. 🎒Making sure all pupils feel the benefits of the full range of changes this new government is making by focusing on poor attendance and reducing the number of children who are persistently absent from our classrooms. This back-to-school week is crucial for setting good behaviours for the year to come. This government will drive high & rising standards and break down barriers to opportunity, but to feel the benefit, children must be in school . Together we can fix our foundations and make this new school year a new beginning for our country.

Did you know you don’t always need a teaching qualification or degree to start teaching in further education? You can complete teacher training on the job and start earning straight away! 🌟 Take Peter, for example. With over 35 years of experience in the construction industry, he now shares his painting and decorating skills at Craven College. “The teacher training course I completed was an ‘in service’ programme, so I was only required to attend lectures once a month. The rest of the training I completed at home and the tutors came into the college to observe my classes. I found completing the course part time alongside the job very manageable”.
