This afternoon, the Prime Minister Keir Starmer, issued his first message to the Civil Service, sharing his vision for a mission-driven government with a real sense of purpose. He said "Delivering change won’t be easy, you don’t need me to tell you that. It will require a different way of working. One of openness, of collaboration and transparency in everything we do. But from the get go I want you to know that– you have my confidence, my support and, importantly, my respect. Together, as one team, we can deliver our mission of national renewal and change. Let’s start that work immediately."

Over the last few weeks tens of thousands of civil servants have attended Civil Service Live events across the country. The annual events give civil servants the opportunity to come together to develop skills, create connections, and generate ideas that will equip the Civil Service to be the best it can in serving the government of the day and delivering for citizens. Last year’s events were recognised at the Conference & Events Awards, picking up the bronze award in the ‘Best Conference / Event Series (over 2,000 attendees)’ category at the Awards Ceremony on Friday. Head of Events at the Cabinet Office Alexandra Whiteley says: “I’m thrilled that Civil Service Live has been recognised in this way. Organising and delivering the events takes a year round effort from a wide range of people, not least our incredible speakers and amazing volunteers whose efforts ensure each event is created by civil servants for civil servants.”

The general election will be on Thursday 4 July. Parliament will be prorogued on Friday 24 May and dissolved on Thursday 30 May. Dissolution is the official term for the end of a Parliament. At dissolution, all business in the House of Commons comes to an end. Select Committees cease to exist, and no public bills can become law. Every seat in the House of Commons becomes vacant and MPs stop representing their constituencies. MPs return after the general election, where MPs are elected or re-elected to their seats. Members of the UK House of Lords also return to Parliament at the same time. Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eJMJ4pir

Will Tyler-Greig, Deputy Director for Ukraine Resettlement at the Scottish Government: The ‘Warm Scots Welcome’ is Scotland’s ambitious contribution to the UK Homes for Ukraine scheme. Around 27,000 displaced Ukrainians have arrived through the programme to date, 21,000 sponsored by the Scottish Government and was the winner of the Civil Service 2023 Excellence in Delivery Award. 🏆 I am incredibly proud of what my team has achieved, leading with compassion and kindness in the service of Scotland. Since winning the award, we have worked collaboratively with the Scottish Refugee Council and partners to introduce a person-centred ‘moving-on’ policy to help councils make more offers of settled accommodation. It's important to recognise this work so please nominate your colleagues who go above and beyond! #ProudCivilServant #CSAwards

Complex problems often require creative solutions. Teams from HMRC's Chief Digital Information Office (CDIO) Data Science and Risk Intelligence Service brought their innovative thinking to the fore when asked to establish the levels of unknown fraud in HMRC’s Self Assessment and VAT systems. This led to their ground-breaking work on the Self Assessment Repayment Incident (SARI) Data Studio where they used pioneering Data Science techniques to find a solution. The teams were awarded the Creative Solutions Civil Service Award 2023 for the project.🏆 Mike Cannon of CDIO said: “Seeing our teams’ commitment to innovation being recognised and celebrated across the wider Civil Service was a fantastic experience” Do you know a colleague who is pioneering innovation in your department? Allison Bradbury, Head of Local Land Charges (LLC) Implementation: The LLC programme is transforming local land charges services delivered by 300+ local authorities in England and Wales, into a single digital register. To date, the team have saved customers a total of £2 million in costs, 2.4 million days, and contribute to the government's green credentials. I had the honour of attending the CS awards when LLC won programme of the year. We are all beyond delighted. It is totally deserved, and is a result of the team’s hard work, good spirits and tenacity. I am super proud of everyone working on and supporting LLC, and so grateful to be part of this amazing team. It's important we continue to recognise work that too often goes unnoticed, so nominate your colleagues who have gone above and beyond this year at the awards 2024!🏆🎉 #CSAwards #ProudCivilServant
