September marks Suicide Prevention Month, a cause I care about deeply, though I wish it didn’t hit as close to home as it does. When I was 18, I lost my wonderful, kind-hearted Dad to suicide. This devastating loss forever changed my whole world, my perspective on life, mental health, and the importance of reaching out for support. Before I wrote this blog, I hadn’t spoken about the details of my Dad’s passing in a professional setting—not because I’m ashamed or afraid to talk about it, but because I’ve been unsure of how people might react to that word. Suicide. I am grateful to my incredible friends, family and colleagues TLC: Talk, Listen, Change & Now You're Talking who have always been so supportive and understanding. Life after you have been bereaved by suicide, is never the same again. I want to continue to share my story and raise awareness. There is always hope.
