💷💷The £1000 'rule' 💸💸 Every Friday, a member of our Leadership Team records a video on a current topic in the business, to be shared with all colleagues. Here is an example of our Chairman, John Timpson discussing our £1000 'rule'. Every colleague in our business has the ability to spend up to £1000 to settle a customer complaint on the spot- no need to ask anyone for permission. We think it's really important to resolve issues for our customers here and now, rather than let them 'fester' which inevitably results in a more expensive resolution for us and a poor experience for our customers. I put this to good use when I was working in our King's Rd shop on Christmas Eve about 10 years ago. I destroyed a customer's VERY expensive shoes (I was never the best cobbler 😬). When she returned to collect them, I apologised and asked her to purchase a new pair on us. She came back about an hour later with her new shoes (not far off the £1000 limit 😵) and a coffee to say thank you. I'm confident she still uses us to this day and she's unlikely to have the same problem unless I happen to be visiting her local branch for the day! A favour to ask- please share experiences you have had with businesses when you have had to make a complaint. Good, bad and ugly!

We're thrilled to be working with John Lewis & Partners to offer an in-store repairs and alterations service to their customers. We like to work with businesses who share our values and the John Lewis Partnership most certainly do. 😊

Sweet seams! John Lewis has launched a new in-store repair service 👕 Did you know that extending a garment’s life by just nine months can reduce its carbon, waste and water footprints by up to 30%? Now customers can bring their beloved garments and accessories back to life through a new trial launching in five John Lewis branches including: Oxford, Liverpool, Cheadle, Milton Keynes and Welwyn. 🏬 From restoring the zip on a luxury clutch to or adjusting a pair of curtains, the service will offer repair and alterations, dry cleaning and more. 🙌 We’re joining forces with Johnsons Cleaners (part of the Timpson Group) - another purpose-led business known for their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction - to bring their expertise for this new offering to our customers. 🎉🎉We want to give you free 'stuff'! 🎉🎉 We're on a bit of a mission to show more of our personality in our digital driven businesses. It isn't easy. Normally, we rely on the personalities of our amazing colleagues serving the customers in our shops. As digital becomes a bigger part of our business through our web and vending businesses, we want to make sure our culture and personality is front and centre. We think random acts of kindness are important, which is why we encourage our colleagues to give 'stuff' away for free. We actually make more money in shops where we do more 'freebies', so it's a win, win! With this in mind, if you happen to shop on MaxPhoto.co.uk, TescoPhoto.com or Timpson.com you've now got every chance of your order being on the house! ☺️🥳

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting many of our vending colleagues at The Nest Manchester for a summit. It marked 18 months since welcoming Iconx International Ltd into the Timpson Group family, and provided an opportunity for our colleagues to reflect on their remarkable achievements to date. We believe vending presents a significant growth opportunity for our business. The integration of self-service options allows us to engage with customers in locations where a full shop offering may not be feasible. While machines will never replace the amazing colleagues working in our shops, we think they can compliment each other and significantly improve the overall customer experience. None of that would be possible without the amazing team of colleagues who develop, build and maintain our machines across the UK and Ireland. Hats off to each of you 🎩

We are recruiting for a Digital Marketing Manager based at Timpson House near Manchester. It's a great place to work and it's an area of the business that's rapidly growing, so it's an exciting opportunity for the right person. If you know someone with a great personality who might be suitable for the role, please ask them to get in touch with Neil Makinson. No recruiters please- sorry!

Had a lovely chat with Michael Esau, Simon Humphreys and SAP SuccessFactors about how we do things at the Timpson Group. Our CEO, James covers all of this and more in his book- The Happy Index- and he is far more articulate than I am! 😉 PS- small error on my behalf, we ask our colleagues how they are feeling at the end of every week, which for us is a Thursday evening. We are looking at changing this to every day, but it’s not in place yet. Hopefully you’ll let me off! 😬

It is episode release day! Episode 41 and it is a beaut!!! We were joined by the wonderful William Lankston, Timpson Group to get the inside scoop on their absolute commitment to being "The Happy Organisation". Timpson have long been respected for their culture, their attitude towards recruitment, employee benefits and more - but what really shone through in the conversation - the absolute commitment and belief that their philosophy really is the way to do business - there is no doubt. Its about empowerment, trust, very few rules and doing everything to engender happiness amongst employees. At the end of every shift, every colleague is asked to rate out 10 how happy they feel at that moment. Every Day. Follow ups happen the next morning if there is a dip in the score - absolutely fascinating and amazing. James Timpson, CEO, Timpson Group has just released his book "The Happy Index" which explains the lessons they have learnt from their "upside down management" approach - I would highly recommend this book! This was a brilliant conversation that Simon Humphreys and myself really enjoyed and we hope you do too. How about this brilliant sketch from Marie Trojani - fabulous and many of the learning points jump off the sketch. Links to all episodes in the comments below and let us know what you thought of the episode.

Kind words from Advita about our training centre- The Nest Manchester. We do take booking for meetings and events at the Nest, so please get in touch if you think it might be the right space for you. Just around the corner from Manchester Airport.

I was lucky to visit the fab Timpson Group Nest site last week as part of the vocL event - which was brilliant. I was amazed at every little detail, including this quote on the wall. “If you treat people well, it’s blindingly obvious that they will do a good job.” How simple. Treat people well. Ask them curious questions. Be interested. Recognise their contribution. Communicate and listen well. Support their progression and ambitions. A safe, inclusive environment can transform lives and organisations. There's not much else to it. What do you think? Are we at risk of overcomplicating leadership? #Leadership #Communication Alt text: there are some multi-coloured umbrellas hanging from the ceiling. At the top in deep burgundy writing the quote is on the wall.
