Timebanking UK

Timebanking builds networks of people who give and receive support, enabling people from different backgrounds who may not otherwise meet to form meaningful connections and friendships. Generating social capital in this way can enhance health, wellbeing and resilience, all of which can prevent additional needs arising, saving precious resources as well as contributing to a foundation of co-production. Our bespoke software, TimeOnline 2, makes it easy to see what other members are offering and requesting. Within timebanking, everyone’s hour is equal, regardless of age, ability, education, employment status or income. Timebanking is flexible and enables individuals to dip in and out as much as they like, donating their time as they wish. Our research shows that timebanking contributes to: ✅Reduced anxiety ✅Increased self-esteem ✅Reduced isolation and loneliness ✅More connected and resilient communities ✅Improvement to health and wellbeing through the established benefit of human connectivity. When a person feels valued they feel happier and empowered. We help communities to set up and run their time bank on a hyper local level - neighbourhood by neighbourhood, high street by high street - coproducing them with local people who have equal input. BACK US TO BACK THEM! Time Together 2024 is your opportunity to support and engage with the national Timebanking UK community, addressing a pressing need for collaborative solutions in social impact and community resilience. It will be our first in-person whole community gathering since pre-pandemic. WHO ARE THE TIMEBANKING COMMUNITY? The Timebanking community comprises individuals and groups who participate in or support the practice of timebanking. Timebanking participants “earn” time, for each hour they spend helping others, which they can then use to receive services from others in the community. This community includes: Participants: Individuals who actively engage in timebanking by offering their skills, services, or time to help others within the community.  Time bank Coordinators: Organisers or coordinators, from within their community, who manage and facilitate timebanking activities, ensuring smooth operations and promoting participation.  Supporters and Advocates: People who promote the principles of timebanking, advocate for its benefits, and support its integration into community development and social initiatives.  Organisations and Initiatives: Not-for-profits, community groups, and organisations that host or support timebanking activities as part of their mission to strengthen community ties and address local needs.  Researchers and Educators: Academics, researchers, and educators who study timebanking, its impacts, and its potential for social and economic development. Together, they form a network focused on mutual support, community building, and fostering social capital through the exchange of time and skills rather than traditional currency. The Timebanking community operates on principles of reciprocity, inclusivity, and community empowerment, aiming to create resilient and interconnected communities where everyone's contributions are valued. This week we had the pleasure of meeting with Raj Burman - Fellow Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs - a philanthropist deeply committed to improving the lives of others. Unasked he has written this short piece on the value he sees as evident in timebanking.

We're very pleased to let you know that Matt Day won Social Prescribing Link Worker of the Year 2024 at last night's awards. Obviously this is his win, and is due to diligent work and an amazing network, but for our little part Matt had this to say: "Since we began considering a Time bank in 2022, the support from Timebanking UK has been invaluable. John Biesse, Sarah Bird and James Ryan's guidance has been crucial at every stage, from overcoming start-up challenges to addressing safeguarding and insurance concerns. The 'Check-in & Chat' online peer support meetings have not only provided practical solutions to common issues but also fostered a sense of belonging within the movement. Thanks to their efforts, we secured funding to employ a Community Engagement Worker for six months, supercharging our membership and connections with local organisations. Our Time bank would not have been as successful as it has been without the guidance and support of Timebanking UK."
