"While balancing the demands of life as a corporate lawyer as well as being a father of two young boys is daunting, I feel I’ve come back from parental leave better equipped to do my job than I was four months ago." From William Nicolson: How my newborn son taught me to be a better lawyer.

After 18 months of secrecy, speculation and extraordinary legal fees, the Premier League’s case against Manchester City over more than 100 alleged rule breaches is set to begin today. On the one side, Manchester City faces potentially the most serious allegations ever levelled at a club. Any sanction will depend on what, if anything, is proved against them, but punishment could include relegation or even expulsion from the League. Yet the Premier League is also staring down the barrel. Monday’s trial is the culmination of nearly six years of legal wrangling. By filing an extraordinary 115 charges against Manchester City, it has left no doubt that it thinks the dominant force in its competition is guilty of serious and repeated rule breaking. Manchester City denies the allegations. It is almost inevitable that the League will not prove all 115 charges, but should it fail to prove some of the more serious allegations against the club, it risks not just looking wrong and inept, but undermining its authority and ability to enforce its own rules. The balance of power would firmly shift to the richer clubs and the heads of its in-house lawyers would likely roll.

As part of The Lawyer's Practice Analysis - sponsored by Saxton Bampfylde, we are conducting a short survey to get insight into the motivations, expectations and experiences of private practice partners who have transitioned into new roles in the last three years. This short survey, which should take you no longer than 3 minutes to complete, delves into how you came across the role you are currently in, what your motivations were to move from your previous role and how your overall experience was with regard to the recruitment process. The findings of the survey will be available for you to read in a report that will published on Practice Analysis and on the Saxton Bampfylde website. Thank you for taking the time to participate in this survey. https://lnkd.in/gitjzP86
