Our Managing Director Bonnie Chiu, in this blog reflects on 10 incredible years at The Social Investment Consultancy (TSIC) and shared three key experiences that defined her early days. In her own words: “How many ten years are there in a lifetime? Life is short, and a decade is a long time, but also the perfect moment for reflection.” Bonnie indicates that a defining moment in her journey was leading a report on supplier diversity, advocating for ethnic minority-owned businesses in the UK, adding that these early projects paved the way for later initiatives like the Diversity Forum and Pathway Fund, which continues to push boundaries in racial equity and social investment. During the World Trade Organization public forum, our MD Bonnie Chiu reflected on her personal experiences growing up in Hong Kong and how free trade must be more equitably distributed across society. Bonnie also expounds on digitalisation, particularly in driving gender equality, sharing stories like that of Diane Wang, founder of DHGATE Group who is using digital platforms to empower women entrepreneurs globally. She added that with the rise of populist politics and anti-globalisation sentiments, the need to centre inclusion in trade has never been more urgent. Our Principal Consultant for the ASEAN Region Joel Koh recently had the privilege of leading an Impact Measurement Masterclass as part of The National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre’s (NVPC) Next Gen Changemakers 2024 programme in Singapore. It was an opportunity to engage with aspiring changemakers and share practical tools to measure and maximize their social impact.
🚀 What an amazing journey it has been! The National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) has successfully concluded the overseas component of the Next Gen Changemakers 2024 programme, which took place in Hong Kong from September 9th to 12th, 2024. This marks the second part of a two-part programme, with the first held in Singapore. This initiative focuses on supporting succession planning for non-profits through a reflective experience that highlights purpose-driven leadership. 12 Changemakers from Cycling Without Age Singapore, Presbyterian Community Services (PCS), EQUAL, SATA COMMHEALTH, Canossaville Children and Community Services, Singapore Children's Society, Yong-en Care Centre, New Life Community Services (Singapore), SHINE Children and Youth Services, HCA Hospice , Extraordinary People Limited, and MINDSG Ltd joined us on this leadership journey. This programme aims to empower non-profit leaders through transformative masterclasses (in Singapore) and hands-on learning experiences in Hong Kong, enabling them to inspire their teams toward impactful social change. Our Changemakers gained valuable insights into implementing transparent and accountable governance structures, enhancing their understanding of financial management, budgeting, and resource allocation. Additionally, they explored impact measurement frameworks and learned to integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into their organisations. NVPC remains committed to fostering innovation and leadership within the non-profit sector in Singapore. 🌟 A huge thank you to our masterclass facilitators: Carla Henry GMBPsS from Purpose Collective, Susan Foong from Baker Tilly, Nhan Quang from EY, Gemma Byrne from NVPC, Chia Miang Yeow from the National Kidney Foundation, and Joel Koh from TSIC. Bonnie Chiu, Joel Koh and Timothy K. C. Cheng kicked off our first session of the "MEL for Advocacy, Lobbying, Campaigning, and Community Engagement" course last week, equipping 41 nonprofit professionals working on climate justice and energy transition with the tools to implement effective MEL systems. This session provided a process to design and implement a monitoring, evaluation, and learning system for non-profit organisations engaged in advocacy and campaigning work and it aimed to strengthen the necessary skills to manage and adjust the MEL system, particularly in the area of energy transition, after the course.
