About us
The Outward Bound Trust is an educational charity that uses outdoor experiences and challenges to develop young people and equip them with skills for education, work and life. Founded in 1941, we now have six residential centres in the UK. We work with young people aged 9-24 through: • Education: students attending through their school, college or youth group • Early careers: apprentices and graduates attending through their employer or college • Summer adventures: young people attending independently How you can partner with Outward Bound: Learning and development – we are the behavioural development training provider of choice for many of the UK’s top apprentice and graduate employers as they recognise that our approach accelerates early careers' learning and delivers measurable business results. We are approved suppliers on the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers. Corporate supporters – connect with our fundraising team to understand how our tailored partnerships deliver lasting results for disadvantaged young people and real benefits to your company. If you/your organisation would like to find out more about how you can work in partnership with us, please call 01931 740000 or visit www.outwardbound.org.uk We have a zero-tolerance policy towards hate speech in our online spaces. On 6 May 2024, history was made with The Big Rappel - the first-ever rope descent of the world’s most famous skyscraper, the Empire State Building in New York City, raising over $3 million to enable young people worldwide to experience the amazing power of Outward Bound. HRH Princess Beatrice, Trustee of The Outward Bound Trust, joined us on the ground in NYC to support and shine a spotlight on this momentous event, appearing on live TV and lighting up the iconic tower in our signature colours to mark the successful descent by all 23 abseilers. This week, the Princess hosted an evening for everyone involved in The Big Rappel to come together once again and reflect on their incredible achievement, and its lasting impact on young lives across the globe. 🎵 "𝘐 𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘚𝘢𝘺 𝘐 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘠𝘰𝘶..." Well, kind of. We are dialling up the gratitude today with our Alumni Thankathon! ☎️ With a little help from our friends at Sustainable Advantage, we're reaching out to our fantastic alumni network — not to sing (thankfully), but to hear their inspiring stories and show our appreciation for their continued support. As a charity that’s been empowering young people since 1941, we’re privileged to connect with alumni across generations. While times have changed, both in the world and Outward Bound, the heart of every story we hear remains the same: their course was transformative, unforgettable, and something they believe every young person should experience.

̷M̷o̷u̷n̷t̷ ̷K̷i̷l̷i̷m̷a̷n̷j̷a̷r̷o̷ 🖊 Guy Williams and Alistair McAuley can now cross Africa's highest peak off their bucket list. They summited it last week, in a stroke of luck after battling poor conditions, reaching the top in time to catch a spectacular sunrise. Climbing Kilimanjaro isn’t for the faint-hearted—with altitude and freezing temperatures in the mix—but their success proves that with the right mindset, strong teamwork, and resilience, incredible things happen. Flying our flag (both literally and figuratively), this adventure couldn’t be more 'Outward Bound'! And thanks to the funds raised, many young people will have their own experience of conquering something big, pushing their limits, and discovering what they can achieve—just like Guy and Alistair.

How far would you go to support young people swapping screen time for outdoor adventure? 🚴♂️ Henry Morris is going the full length of Britain, cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats, and today he stopped by our head office to say hello! Henry’s challenge is helping raise vital funds to make sure more young people get the chance to experience the outdoors—building resilience, confidence, and curiosity. We’re backing him all the way! You can support Henry’s ride and help young people benefit from outdoor learning here: https://lnkd.in/ebqPjz_h
