Today, we're launching a landmark youth-led mass media programme across Kenya! Developed in collaboration with Shujaaz Inc, the campaign is a new partnership to tackle restrictive and harmful gender norms. "Surround Sound Kenya: Changing the Gender Story Together" is an ambitious 5-year project supported by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Co-Impact, Echidna Giving and Imaginable Futures; to reach young people in Kenya – including those who are hardest to reach - with authentic, creative and immersive media that is co-created and locally led. Reaching both boys and girls – including those hardest to reach - the distinct content from each of the partner organizations and messages will be complementary and mutually reinforcing delivered through a range of touchpoints. Having amassed decades of evidence between both organizations that authentic youth-led media can help shift restrictive norms at scale, we are determined to unlock the life-changing power of media in Kenya to change the gender story and enable young people to feel free to make different choices; about their bodies, their relationships, their education, the work they do – and the lives they want. Within a generation, investment in mental health will match the scale of global need. This is the inspiring vision of the Coalition for Mental Health (CMHI), a newly launched initiative from @African Venture Philanthropy Alliance (AVPA), @Clinton Global Initiative, @Kokoro, @McKinsey Health Institute, and @Wellcome, dedicated to catalyzing investment in mental health. Rapidly increasing global awareness about the importance of mental health is an opportunity for cross-sector stakeholders to transform the lives of people around the world by making mental health services more affordable and accessible for all. CMHI was launched to make mental health an attractive, viable, and scalable investment opportunity for funders across the full range of public and private capital. We encourage you to learn more about CMHI and how you can get involved: https://lnkd.in/eSJP_xhv #InvestInMentalHealth #BrainHealth #MTVStayingAliveFoundation #MTVSAF #MondayMotivation

We are pleased to announce the publication of our impact paper on the MTV Shuga Naija campaign in Nigeria, titled: “You Need to be Able to Stand Up for What is Right”: MTV Shuga Naija’s Transformative Impact on Youth Attitudes Toward Sexual Violence in Nigeria”. In Nigeria, approximately 10% of women of reproductive age report experiencing sexual violence in the past year, with potentially enduring health and social consequences. The effects can be especially severe for younger women and adolescents. MTV Shuga Naija utilizes an entertainment-education TV serial drama to promote gender equality and challenge norms around sexual violence. MTV Nishedh #SafeHaiSahiHai Campaign Wins Bronze at AFAQS Marketers' Excellence Awards 2024! We are thrilled to announce that the #MTVNishedh campaign, #SafeHaiSahiHai (It's safe, it's right), has been awarded the Bronze award at the AFAQS Marketing Awards 2024 for Best Cause Marketing. This campaign, centered around World Contraception Day 2023, was dedicated to spreading awareness and normalizing conversations around modern contraception while busting myths associated with it. Through engaging content across Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, MTV Nishedh successfully reached the youth. We expanded our reach by utilizing local platforms like #Moj, collaborating with 22 influencers to effectively convey our message. Additionally, Nishedh's collaboration with Hasley India to create a YouTube sketch promoting condom use, resonated well with the audience. The entire campaign directed viewers to our helpline, resulting in over 1500 calls from individuals seeking information and sharing their queries. We remain committed to continuing our efforts in promoting informed and healthy conversations around contraception to help the youth make informed choices for themselves. Reflections and lessons learned on gender in the media sector from MTV Shuga Naija’s Talent Accelerator Programme In 2021, MTV-SAF received funding from the Global Innovation Fund. This funding was used to develop and produce a new season of MTV Shuga in Nigeria, focused on gender-based violence (GBV), as well as wider themes, including HIV (through additional funders). The development integrated broad local partnerships to create locally relevant and impactful content, which effectively reaches extensive youth audiences.
