I really like this example of 'manufacturing matters' to interregional economic development. Congratulations to all concerned in East Riding and London, and to Siemens as an anchor institution. This collaborative model of place-based investment linked with smart procurement needs replicating across all regions and productive sectors of the UK economy.
Transport Secretary Louise Haigh has today officially opened the £200m Siemens’ Rail Village in Goole. The plant will be home to hundreds of high-skilled jobs where almost 100 new state-of-the-art Piccadilly Line trains will be manufactured and assembled. East Riding of Yorkshire Council leader Councillor Anne Handley attended the opening and said: “This has been a day to remember for Goole and the East Riding. “The opening of this new factory has well and truly put the town on the UK manufacturing map. “The economic benefits for Goole are fantastic, with the further announcement today of the extra £40m investment and extra 200 jobs to be created. “We’re delighted that Siemens Mobility chose the East Riding as the location for this factory and we look forward to working closely with the company for many years to come for the benefit of the local community.” https://orlo.uk/wbF11

❓Is it OK for social housing providers to "mark their own homework" when it comes to ESG performance? Do we need a sustainability audit standard that delivers the same level of comfort as we have for financial performance? Our Chief Executive, Sarah Forster, will debate these questions with Isabelle Kirk from Stonewater, Neil Hewitson from KPMG, and Janani Paramsothy from Places for People (Chair) at the National Housing Federation's Treasury in Housing Conference. 🏘️ Event: Treasury in Housing, National Housing Federation 🗓️ Date: 10 October 2024 🔗 Info and tickets: https://lnkd.in/g57aqbAi #ESGReporting #ESG #SocialHousing #NHFTreasury

🌟 National Renewal, Place-Based Investments, and the Role of Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS) In light of the government's positioning of LGPS as potential ‘engines of growth’ within the National Renewal agenda, we believe it’s time for LGPS to define their role within this national initiative. At The Good Economy, we have been at the forefront of calling for increased institutional investment within the UK. We advocate for place-based investment strategies that foster dynamism and inclusivity in local and regional economies - key components the Government seeks to establish as the foundation for National Renewal. Our #PBII Reporting Framework helps pension funds gain a clearer understanding of their UK portfolios and report on their investments consistently and transparently. This is essential information for Funds wishing to understand their contribution to our local and national economies. To date, we’ve collaborated with, amongst others, the Greater Manchester Pension Fund, London Pensions Fund Authority, #ClwydPensionFund, Cornwall Pension Fund and South Yorkshire Pensions Authority, and the framework is fast becoming an industry standard. 🤝 Pensions for Purpose is strengthening our pioneering #PlaceBased #ImpactInvesting (#PBII) Network by joining as a convening partner, alongside The Good Economy, the Institute of Economic Development, and the Impact Investing Institute. Their involvement will help us gain greater traction across the pensions industry, driving more capital towards impactful investments. The PBII Network is a trusted space where local authorities and investment managers collaborate to share knowledge and develop innovative financing solutions, scaling institutional investment to drive local economic resilience and sustainable development in places across the UK. Richard Giles, Senior Director and Community Lead at Pensions for Purpose said: "Now is a significant juncture for PBII by pension funds. There is momentum from the many local government pension schemes investing in place, while other types of schemes, including DC master trusts, are considering PBII and being encouraged by the Government to invest in productive UK assets."
