🌟 Celebrating Documentary Excellence at the Grierson Awards 🌟 Last night, a few of us from The Finish Line had the pleasure of attending the Grierson Awards to celebrate the outstanding nominees, winners, and the incredible craft of documentary filmmaking. It was an inspiring evening, filled with stories that make an impact and showcase the power of real storytelling. A special mention to My Name is Happy, which took home the award for Best Single Documentary – International. This powerful film by Nick Read, Ayse Toprak, Adam Bullmore, Mahmut Kaya, Meryem Yavuz, and Anna Price (October Films, Red Zed Films, Horovel Films) tells the moving story of Kurdish singer Mutlu Kaya, who survived a brutal attack after reaching the finals of Turkey’s Got Talent. Despite life-changing injuries and tragic loss, Mutlu has become a courageous voice for women’s rights in Turkey, sharing her journey and shining a light on the pressing issue of femicide. The jurors described the film as an inspirational story of resilience, highlighting Mutlu’s strength as she transforms tragedy into powerful advocacy. We’re honoured to celebrate such impactful work.
