The extension to the sunset clause on the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) to 2035 has now been officially confirmed. HMRC Treasury has confirmed the extension of the Enterprise Investment Scheme relief and Venture Capital Trusts relief to shares issued before 6 April 2035. An extension to the clause was announced last November and passed through parliament in the Finance Act 2024 in February. Yesterday was confirmed as the appointed day that the extension came into force: “3rd September 2024 is appointed as the day on which section 11 (extension of enterprise investment scheme relief and venture capital trusts relief to shares issued before 6 April 2035) of the Finance Act 2024 comes into force.” Our thanks to the Tax and Technical committee chaired by Philip Hare, the EISA Board and all EISA members who have worked so hard with us to confirm this extension. Thank you also to partner organisations who have worked with us on this, including The Association of Investment Companies (AIC), British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA), Enterprise Nation, The Entrepreneurs Network, Startup Coalition, UK Business Angels Association, Venture Capital Trust Association (VCTA) among many others. The Enterprise Investment Scheme was mentioned in today's budget announced by Rt Hon Rachel Reeves. "As a sign of this government's commitment to supporting growth and entrepreneurship, we have already extended the Enterprise Investment Scheme and the Venture Capital Trust schemes to 2035, and we will continue to work with leading entrepreneurs and venture capital firms to ensure that our policies support a positive environment for entrepreneurship in the UK." It was encouraging to see the government emphasise the importance of the scheme, and its part in the United Kingdom's growth. In November, we will be holding our Autumn Technical Seminar, where our committees will discuss the impact of the budget and more. The fourth annual Nations and Regions Tracker from British Business Bank was released last week. It presents an analysis that highlights geographic patterns observed in UK small business finance. Key points include 👇 📈 External finance use among smaller businesses recovered in 2023 across most UK Nations and regions, reaching 46% from 36% the year before. Usage rates were highest in Wales (53%) and only the East of England saw no positive change 🇬🇧 Geographical differences were driven by variations in businesses’ willingness to use finance 🏴 Wales is the top nation for external finance use, with 53% of Welsh smaller businesses reporting using finance in 2023 📉 Demand for loans & overdrafts from major banks remained subdued in 2023, but the rate of decline had eased across all UK Nations and regions You can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dFFK6JJU
